Ezekiel 10 is a vision of the cherubim, the wheels beside them, and the glory of the LORD lifting from the temple. This page gives you questions and answers for a whole chapter, so a small group leader, a Sunday class teacher, or someone studying alone can move through the text without preparing a separate summary.

Ezekiel 10 at a Glance

The chapter returns to the throne-chariot vision Ezekiel first saw by the river Chebar in chapter 1. A man clothed in linen is commanded to take coals of fire from between the cherubim and scatter them over Jerusalem. The cloud fills the inner court, and the glory of the LORD rises from the cherub, pauses over the threshold, and moves toward the east gate.

The chapter closes by identifying the living creatures as the same cherubim Ezekiel saw before, and by noting that their faces and movements were the same. The wheels, the eyes, and the four faces emphasize that God’s presence is mobile, attentive, and not confined to the temple building.

Observation Questions

Use these questions first, before anyone offers an explanation. Ask the group to point to the verse that supports each answer, and let the text correct early guesses about symbols.

Ezekiel 10:4

The LORD’s glory mounted up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD’s glory.

(WEB)

This verse marks the central movement of the chapter, as the glory rises and fills the house with cloud. Reading it aloud helps the group feel the weight of God’s presence before the departure begins.

Ezekiel 10:18-19

18 The LORD’s glory went out from over the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubim. 19 The cherubim lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight when they went out, with the wheels beside them. Then they stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD’s house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.

(WEB)

These verses record the glory leaving the threshold and coming to rest at the east gate. Reading them together lets the group follow the full sequence of the departure.

Ezekiel 10:12

Their whole body, including their backs, their hands, their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes all around, even the wheels that the four of them had.

(WEB)

The image of the creatures full of eyes is striking and easy to misremember. Reading it aloud gives the group a clear picture of God’s complete attention, which sets up the application questions well.

Ezekiel 10:20

This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river Chebar; and I knew that they were cherubim.

(WEB)

This short verse links the vision to the earlier one by the river Chebar. Reading it helps the group see the continuity between God’s appearance in exile and his action in Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 10:22

As for the likeness of their faces, they were the faces which I saw by the river Chebar, their appearances and themselves. They each went straight forward.

(WEB)

The closing verse of the chapter confirms that the faces are the same ones Ezekiel first saw, and that they move straight forward. Ending the reading here leaves the group with the sense of a steady, purposeful God.

Memory Verse for Ezekiel 10

Ezekiel 10:19

The cherubim lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight when they went out, with the wheels beside them. Then they stood at the door of the east gate of the LORD’s house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.

(WEB)

This verse captures the picture of the glory standing above the cherubim at the east gate of the house. Memorizing it gives the group a single image that holds the chapter’s movement, and it is a good verse to repeat during the week.

A Closing Prayer for the Group

Father, we come to you as a group that often assumes you will stay where we expect you. Thank you that you see everything, that nothing about our lives is hidden from your eyes, and that you move with purpose even when your people have wandered. Forgive us for the places where we have let familiar routines take the place of living attention to you. Teach us to watch for your leading and to move when you move, following you wherever you go. Help us to honor your presence in our homes, our church, and our daily choices. Amen.
