This list gives you Bible verses about blessing children, for parents, grandparents, teachers, and anyone who prays over a young life. Each entry includes the reference, the verse text, and a short reflection with one practical way to carry it through the day. These passages share a common thread: children are a gift from God, they are seen and loved by Him, and blessing them is something we can do by word, prayer, and example.

Verses for Speaking Blessing Over Little Ones

Blessing a child is older than any family tradition. Scripture shows parents bringing children to God and God Himself placing His hand on the young. These verses are good to read aloud at bedtime or to speak over a child at a birthday or a school drop-off.

Numbers 6:24-26

24 ‘The LORD bless you, and keep you. 25 The LORD make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. 26 The LORD lift up his face toward you, and give you peace.’

(WEB)

This is the blessing God gave Aaron and his sons to speak over the people. Try saying it softly over a child as you tuck them in, using their name in place of “you.” It turns a routine moment into a spoken prayer for their protection and peace.

Psalm 127:3

Behold, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

(WEB)

The psalmist calls children a heritage from the Lord, something received rather than earned. Remind yourself of this on a tiring day by naming one specific gift your child carries, a laugh or a kindness, and thanking God for it before the day ends.

Mark 10:14

But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.

(WEB)

Jesus was indignant when His disciples tried to keep children away from Him. Take this as an invitation to bring your children to Jesus in your own words. Before school, you might simply say, “Jesus, this one is yours,” and mean it.

Matthew 19:14

But Jesus said, “Allow the little children, and don’t forbid them to come to me; for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones like these.”

(WEB)

Jesus says the kingdom belongs to children like these, which means their openness to God is not a flaw to outgrow. Notice a moment when your child asks a plain, trusting question, and answer it honestly, treating their faith as real.

Verses for Praying Over Children’s Futures

Many parents carry worries about what lies ahead for their children. These verses turn those worries toward God, who knows the path better than anyone and who promises to be faithful across generations.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

This proverb speaks to the patient shaping of a child’s character over years. Consider writing down one value you hope your child will carry into adulthood, then mention it in prayer each week as a way of entrusting that hope to God.

Isaiah 54:13

All your children will be taught by the LORD; and your children’s peace will be great.

(WEB)

The promise here is that the children of God’s people will be taught by the Lord, with great peace. Pray this over your child’s education and friendships, asking God to be their teacher in the things that matter most.

Psalm 103:17

But the LORD’s loving kindness is from everlasting to everlasting with those who fear him, his righteousness to children’s children…

(WEB)

This verse describes God’s steadfast love reaching across generations and to those who keep His ways. When you feel the weight of a child’s future, let it remind you that God’s love does not end at any age or season of life.

Joel 2:28

“It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions.

(WEB)

Joel speaks of the Spirit poured out on sons and daughters, young and old alike. Pray that your children would know the Spirit’s presence in their own lives, and watch for the ways God already speaks to them through dreams, questions, and quiet convictions.

Verses for Hard Days With Children

Blessing children is not only for calm mornings. Some of the most honest prayers come on the days when a child is sick, struggling, or far from home. These verses offer steady ground for those moments.

Psalm 91:11

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

(WEB)

This verse speaks of angels being given charge over the one who dwells under God’s protection. When a child heads out for a trip or a sleepover, pray this over them and let it steady your own heart as you wait for them to return.

Isaiah 40:11

He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom. He will gently lead those who have their young.

(WEB)

God is pictured as a shepherd who gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. Picture your child held that way during a difficult night, and pray for them to rest in that gentle care.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

The Lord heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. If your child is grieving a friendship or a loss, pray this verse over their tender places and ask God to do the binding work only He can do.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses encourages Israel to be strong and courageous because the Lord goes with them. Share this with a nervous child before a test or a first day, and promise them that God’s presence goes with them wherever they walk.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

These verses speak of mercies that are new every morning. On a day that went badly, reread them at dawn and let the new day be a fresh start for your child and for you.

How to Use These Verses

Write a few of these verses on index cards and place them where your child will see them, such as on the bathroom mirror, inside a lunchbox, or on the refrigerator. Reading a verse together at breakfast or before bed builds a habit of returning to God’s word as a family.

When you pray these passages over a child, use their name and speak as if God is already listening, because He is. Short, repeated prayers often do more good than long speeches, so choose one verse each week and pray it faithfully over the children in your life.

A Short Prayer for Children

Lord, thank You for the children You have placed in our care. Some of them are growing quickly, and some of them are still small enough to be carried. Help us to see them the way You see them, as precious and fully known. Give them a sense of Your nearness in ordinary moments, at school, at play, and in the quiet before sleep. Guard their hearts from fear, and teach them to trust You with what they cannot yet understand. Where they are hurting, be their comfort, and where they are joyful, let them know the source of that joy is You. Make us faithful in blessing them with our words and our example, and let our homes be places where Your love is spoken and seen. Amen.

A Blessing

May the Lord bless you and keep you, and may His face shine upon you each day. May you grow in wisdom and kindness, and may you always know that you are loved by the One who made you. Go in peace, and carry His goodness wherever you go. Amen.
