This list gives you Bible verses about endurance, grouped by the moments when perseverance feels hardest: the long stretch of a difficult season, the tiredness that comes after many attempts, and the quiet faithfulness needed in ordinary days. It is written for anyone who is worn down but still trying to keep faith, obedience and hope alive. Each passage points to the same truth: endurance is not something you produce alone, because the God who calls you to keep going is also the one who holds you steady.

Verses for Long Seasons of Waiting

Some endurance is not dramatic. It is the slow work of staying faithful while nothing seems to change. These verses speak to the weeks and months when the answer has not come and patience feels thin.

Psalm 27:14

Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

(WEB)

David speaks to himself here, which is useful when you feel you have nothing left to say. Waiting is treated as an active choice, something you do with courage. Try speaking this line aloud during your commute, reminding yourself that the waiting has a purpose even when you cannot see it.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes strength that comes from hoping in the Lord rather than from your own reserves. The image of running without growing weary feels distant on a hard day. Write the phrase “wait on the Lord” on a sticky note and place it where you start your work, so the reminder meets you before the frustration does.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Jeremiah wrote these words from the ruins of Jerusalem, which means the hope in them was tested, not theoretical. The mercies he names are renewed each morning, not stored up once for all. Before you check your phone in the morning, pause and ask God to show you one mercy for that day.

Verses for When You Are Tired of Trying

Endurance often fails not from a lack of courage but from exhaustion. These passages address the moment when you have done the right thing many times and still feel depleted.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul names the danger directly: growing weary in doing good. He also gives a promise tied to a harvest that comes in its time. When you feel like quitting a good habit or a good relationship, set a reminder for a specific day and treat that day as the check-in point rather than deciding everything today.

Hebrews 12:1

Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us…

(WEB)

The writer pictures faith as a race with a crowd of witnesses around the course. The instruction is to lay aside what slows you down and run with perseverance. Make a short list of one or two specific burdens you can set down this week, and act on one of them.

2 Corinthians 4:16-17

16 Therefore we don’t faint, but though our outward man is decaying, yet our inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory…

(WEB)

Paul admits that the outer self is wasting away, yet he refuses to lose heart because the inner life is being renewed. This gives a way to read fatigue without despair. Notice where you are being renewed this week, perhaps in one conversation or one quiet prayer, and thank God for it specifically.

Verses for Trials That Test Your Faith

Some seasons bring pressure that comes from outside, through illness, loss, conflict or injustice. These verses connect endurance with the shaping work God does through difficulty.

James 1:2-4

2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

(WEB)

James links trials with the growth of steadfastness, and he wants that steadfastness to finish its work. This is not a call to pretend pain is pleasant. Before a difficult appointment or conversation, you might name one specific area where you want God to develop patience in you.

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(WEB)

Paul traces a sequence from suffering to endurance to character to hope. The order matters because it shows hope is not the starting point but the result of persevering. Look back on one past difficulty you survived and write down what it taught you about God’s faithfulness.

1 Peter 5:10

But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

(WEB)

Peter reminds suffering believers that God is the one who restores, confirms, strengthens and establishes them after a short time of trial. The verse places the work of endurance in God’s hands. When anxiety rises, speak the names of the qualities in this verse as a prayer.

Verses for Daily Faithfulness

Endurance is also quiet and ordinary, shown in showing up for family, work and church week after week. These verses encourage steady, unglamorous obedience.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

(WEB)

Paul ends his great chapter on the resurrection with a call to be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in the Lord’s work. He assures readers that their labor is not in vain. Consider the small task you most want to abandon and do it with full attention today.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Paul asks workers to do their tasks as serving the Lord rather than merely people. This reframes repetitive work as something offered to God. Before you begin your next routine task, say a short prayer dedicating the work to Him.

Revelation 2:10

Don’t be afraid of the things which you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested; and you will have oppression for ten days. Be faithful to death, and I will give you the crown of life.

(WEB)

Jesus speaks to the church in Smyrna, promising a crown of life to those who remain faithful even to death. The reward is real but the call is to faithfulness now. Write this verse on a card and keep it in your wallet as a reminder that your daily choices matter.

How to Use These Verses

Write a few of these verses on cards, in a notebook, or on the back of a bookmark, and keep them where you will see them during hard moments: beside your bed, on the dashboard, or on the lock screen of your phone. Choose one verse each week rather than trying to memorize the whole list. A single line you return to often will do more than many you read once.

Read a verse aloud before the difficult part of your day, and then pray it back to God in your own words. Notice which passages stir fear and which bring steadiness, and take those reactions to God honestly. Over time you may find that certain verses become companions you return to in every season.

A Short Prayer for Endurance

Lord, you know how tired I am and how many days I have wanted to stop. Keep me from measuring my faithfulness by how fast I see results. Renew my strength in the morning, and steady my heart when the work feels heavy. Help me to take the next faithful step rather than the whole road at once. Thank you that you do not grow weary and that you carry me when I cannot carry myself. Amen.
