This list gives you Bible verses about gratitude, arranged by the moments when thankfulness is easiest to forget: ordinary mornings, long waits, hard seasons and quiet evenings. It is for anyone who wants Scripture to shape how they notice and name what God has done. What these verses share is a simple conviction: thanks is a response to who God is and what He has already given, not a feeling we must manufacture first.

Verses for Ordinary Mornings and Daily Blessings

Gratitude often begins with small things: breath, a warm meal, a familiar voice. The verses in this group invite you to start the day by naming those gifts before you name your worries.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

This verse sets the tone for a day you did not design. Before your first task, pause and say aloud one specific reason you are glad. Let that sentence be the first thing you say to God today.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

(WEB)

Paul ties thanks to the shape of the whole day, not only to pleasant moments. When an ordinary task feels thankless, try thanking God for the strength to finish it, and notice how the frustration softens.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

These verses were written in the middle of a ruined city, yet they begin with mercy that is renewed each morning. Keep a note on your phone and add one new mercy you see each day this week.

Verses for Hard Seasons and Unanswered Prayers

Thankfulness can seem impossible when grief, illness or disappointment fills the room. These verses do not ask you to pretend. They show that gratitude can sit beside sorrow, because God’s faithfulness does not depend on your circumstances.

Job 1:21

He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the LORD’s name.”

(WEB)

Job speaks these words after losing nearly everything, and he blesses the name of the Lord anyway. You do not have to feel grateful for the loss itself. You can, however, bless God for who He is while you grieve.

Philippians 4:6

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

(WEB)

Paul pairs prayer with thanksgiving even when he is making requests. The next time you bring a worry to God, add one sentence of thanks before you finish, so your petition is wrapped in trust.

Psalm 136:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

This psalm repeats its refrain again and again, as if to teach the heart a rhythm. Choose one short phrase from it and repeat it slowly while you wait for news or for a difficult conversation.

Romans 8:28

We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.

(WEB)

Paul does not say every event is good in itself, but he says God works within them for good. When a situation makes no sense, thank God that you are not left without His purpose, and ask Him to show you the next faithful step.

Verses for Relationships and Everyday Kindness

Gratitude grows when it is spoken to people as well as to God. These verses turn thankfulness outward, toward family, friends, church members and even strangers who have helped you.

Colossians 3:15

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

(WEB)

Paul connects peace in the heart with a thankful spirit. If you feel tension with someone, name one thing you appreciate about them before you speak, and let that gratitude shape your tone.

Ephesians 5:20

Giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God, even the Father…

(WEB)

This verse calls for thanks for all things, offered in the name of Jesus. Think of one person whose help you have taken for granted, and send them a short message this week naming what they did.

Hebrews 12:28

Therefore, receiving a Kingdom that can’t be shaken, let us have grace, through which we serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe…

(WEB)

The writer links gratitude with worship and reverence. Before your next gathering with other believers, take a moment to thank God for the people in the room, not only for the sermon or the music.

1 Chronicles 16:34

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

David’s song is a call to remember God’s goodness and enduring love. Make a habit of telling someone close to you one specific way God has been good to you this month.

How to Use These Verses

Write the verses you return to most on an index card or in the notes app on your phone. Place the card where you will see it at the start of your day, such as the bathroom mirror or the kitchen counter, and read it aloud before you check messages. A verse read aloud tends to stay with you longer than one only glanced at.

Pray these verses rather than only reading them. Turn a verse into a short prayer by putting your own words in front of it, such as “Lord, thank You for this morning, because Your mercies are new.” Return to the same verse for a week and notice what changes in how you see your day.

A Short Prayer for Gratitude

Father, thank You for the gifts I receive without earning them: breath, daylight, food on the table and people who love me. Forgive me for the days when I notice only what is missing. Teach my heart to see Your hand in the small things and in the hard things alike. Let my words to others carry the same thanks I offer You. Help me trust that Your faithfulness does not depend on my mood. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
