This list gives you Bible verses to read, memorize and pray as you prepare for confirmation, whether you are a student making your own profession of faith or a parent or sponsor looking for words to speak over someone you love. Each passage points to the same basic truths: God knows you by name, he keeps his promises, and he holds steady when your own commitment feels thin. The verses are grouped by the moments you are most likely to feel the weight of this step, from the nerves of the days before to the long road of faithfulness after.

Verses for the Days Before Your Confirmation

The weeks leading up to confirmation often bring questions, doubts and a fair amount of nerves. These verses speak to the reader who wonders whether they are ready enough, knowing enough, or good enough to stand up and say yes.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

When you feel small beside the size of the commitment you are making, this promise is addressed directly to you. Before the service, read it once slowly and notice who is speaking. Let the fear be named, then let God answer it.

Psalm 139:1-4

1 The LORD, you have searched me, and you know me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, but, behold, the LORD, you know it altogether.

Confirmation can feel like a test you could fail in front of everyone. This psalm reminds you that God already knows your words before you speak them. Carry that awareness into the room and you may find the pressure to perform loosening its grip.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says the LORD, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

(WEB)

Written to exiles facing an uncertain future, this verse speaks to young people wondering what comes after this day. Write it on an index card and tuck it into your Bible so you can read it on the morning of the service.

Verses for Understanding What You Are Saying Yes To

Confirmation is a public answer to the question of who God is and what he has done. These passages help you hold that answer with understanding rather than memorized phrases alone, and they give you a clear foundation to stand on.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

(WEB)

This is the heart of the gospel, and it is short enough to memorize in an afternoon. Try saying it aloud while walking or doing dishes until the words are part of you, not just words you can recite.

Romans 10:9-10

9 That if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

(WEB)

Paul ties belief and confession together in a way that fits confirmation exactly: you believe in your heart and you speak it with your mouth. Think about what you would say if someone asked you today why you believe, and let your answer be honest.

Ephesians 2:8-9

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, that no one would boast.

(WEB)

Confirmation can leave some people feeling they must now prove themselves worthy. These verses say grace comes first and the gift is not earned. Keep this passage close when you feel pressure to measure your faith by your performance.

Colossians 2:6-7

6 As therefore you received Christ Jesus, the Lord, walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving.

(WEB)

Paul uses the picture of roots and building to describe a faith that grows over time. Confirmation marks a beginning, not a finish line, so consider what it would look like to keep growing in the faith you are professing.

Verses for Standing Firm After the Service

The celebration ends, the cards are opened and the ordinary week returns. These verses speak to the quieter, longer stretch of living out a commitment when no one is watching and the feeling of the day has faded.

Joshua 24:15

If it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose today whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

(WEB)

Joshua calls the people to choose whom they will serve and then declares his own household’s answer. Confirmation is a choice of this kind, and you may want to write your own version of Joshua’s sentence in a journal dated for this day.

Philippians 1:6

Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.

(WEB)

Paul expresses confidence that God will finish what he has started. When your enthusiasm dips a few months from now, return to this verse to remember that the work does not depend on your strength alone.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Discouragement is common in the middle of a long obedience. This verse promises a harvest for those who do not quit, so choose one small habit such as weekly worship or regular prayer and commit to it for the season ahead.

Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

(WEB)

The writer pictures a crowd of witnesses and urges the reader to run with endurance, looking to Jesus. Ask a trusted mentor or family member to be one of the people who cheers you on as you keep going.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

(WEB)

Timothy was young and sometimes timid, and Paul reminded him of the spirit God gives. When speaking up for your faith feels awkward, this verse is a reminder that courage is a gift you can ask for in prayer.

How to Use These Verses

Start by copying three or four verses that stand out to you onto cards or into a notebook you will keep. Place them somewhere you will see each day, such as a mirror, a phone lock screen or the inside cover of your Bible. Reading them in the same place each morning builds the habit faster than reading a long list once.

Read the verses aloud rather than silently, and read the whole passage around each one, not just the single line. Pray through the verse by turning its promise into a request, such as asking God to help you believe what the verse says about him. If you are a parent or sponsor, consider reading one verse with your confirmand over breakfast or on the drive to church.

A Short Prayer for Confirmation

Lord, you have known me since before I was born, and you have never stopped calling me by name. As I take this step, I ask you to steady my heart where it feels unsure and to make my words honest instead of rehearsed. Help me to believe what I am about to say, and help me to keep believing it long after this day is over. Strengthen me for the ordinary weeks ahead, when no one is watching and the feeling of the service has faded. Thank you for your patience with me and for your faithfulness that does not depend on how I feel. Amen.
