This lesson teaches children that God is faithful even when people turn away from Him, and that God Himself promises to rescue His people. It suits children ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes, including the story, verses, and activity.

Big Idea

God never stops loving His people, and He always keeps His promise to save and protect those who trust Him, even when they make mistakes.

Memory Verse

Jeremiah 15:20

I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall. They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and to deliver you,” says the LORD.

(WEB)

Have children stand tall with feet together and put both hands up like a strong wall. Say the words slowly, then press your hands firmly forward together as you say “I am with you to save you.” Repeat it three times with the motion.

The Story: Jeremiah 15 for Kids

Jeremiah was a prophet, which means he spoke God’s messages to the people of Judah. The people had turned away from God and were doing many wrong things. Jeremiah was sad about this, and he told God how tired he felt from speaking to people who would not listen.

God told Jeremiah that the people would face hard times because they had turned their backs on Him. Some would be taken away, and others would face trouble of many kinds. God said He was weary of showing kindness to people who refused to come back to Him. It was a serious warning, and it was meant to help them see the truth.

Jeremiah felt hurt and alone. He said, “Why is my pain never ending?” He was honest with God about his feelings. He reminded God that he had loved God’s words and that he belonged to God. Jeremiah trusted God even while he was sad and afraid.

Then God spoke kind words to Jeremiah. God said, “If you return to me, I will bring you back.” God promised to make Jeremiah strong like a wall made of bronze. People would try to fight against him, but they would not win, because God was with him. God said, “I will rescue you from the hand of the wicked.”

This chapter shows that God is honest about sin, and He is also loving toward the people who come back to Him. God keeps His promises, even when His people struggle. Jeremiah learned that God would be his protection no matter what happened.

Read It Together

Jeremiah 15:11

The LORD said, “Most certainly I will strengthen you for good. Most certainly I will cause the enemy to make supplication to you in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

(WEB)

Point out that God speaks directly to Jeremiah with a promise to strengthen him. Ask children to notice the word “strengthen” and talk about times they feel weak and how God gives help.

Jeremiah 15:16

Your words were found, and I ate them. Your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by your name, the LORD, God of Armies.

(WEB)

Show children that Jeremiah loved God’s words so much they were a joy to him. Explain that reading the Bible can bring joy, and ask how they feel when they hear a favorite Bible story.

Jeremiah 15:19-21

19 Therefore the LORD says, “If you return, then I will bring you again, that you may stand before me; and if you take out the precious from the vile, you will be as my mouth. They will return to you, but you will not return to them. 20 I will make you to this people a fortified bronze wall. They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you to save you and to deliver you,” says the LORD. 21 “I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the hand of the terrible.”

(WEB)

Point out God’s promise to return to His people and rescue them. Emphasize that God will deliver Jeremiah from people who want to hurt him, and remind children that God keeps His word.

Talk About It

  • What did Jeremiah tell God about how he was feeling?
  • Why do you think God wanted His people to come back to Him?
  • What did God promise to do for Jeremiah when people fought against him?
  • How can you tell that God loves His people even when they make mistakes?
  • What is one way you can trust God when you feel sad or afraid?

Activity Ideas

Paper Bronze Wall Craft

You will need construction paper in gray or brown, glue, and a marker. Have each child draw a small brick wall on the paper and write “God is with me” across the top. Let them glue small squares of gray or brown paper onto the wall to look like bronze bricks. Talk about how God protected Jeremiah like a strong wall.

Wall Walk Game

Clear a small space in the room and have children line up side by side with arms linked to form a wall. One child walks toward the wall and tries to get through, while the others hold firm and say the memory verse together. Let children switch roles so everyone experiences being part of the protecting wall.

Take-Home Verse Card

You will need index cards, crayons, and a pencil. Write the memory verse on a card and ask children to decorate it with drawings of a strong wall or a friend. Encourage them to take the card home and read it to a family member at dinner. This helps the lesson continue beyond the classroom.

Teacher Notes

For adults, this chapter shows that God takes sin seriously and does not pretend that people who turn away from Him face no consequences. It also shows His deep patience and His willingness to restore those who return to Him. Jeremiah’s honest complaints remind us that God welcomes honest prayer, even when we feel frustrated or hurt.

Avoid suggesting to children that God is angry or punishes them whenever they do something wrong. Keep the focus on God’s faithfulness, love, and promise to protect and rescue those who trust Him.

A Prayer to Close

Dear God, thank You for being faithful to Your people. When we feel scared or sad, help us remember that You are with us and You will keep us safe. Help us come back to You when we make mistakes, because You love us and welcome us home. We trust You to keep Your promises. Amen.
