This list gives newlyweds a set of Bible verses to read, pray and carry into the first part of the day, when the house is quiet and the plans for the day are still being made. It is written for couples who want to begin their life together with God’s word on the kitchen table rather than only on the calendar. The verses below share a common thread: they describe God as faithful each morning, and they ask a husband and wife to trust him with the ordinary hours ahead, the small disagreements and the shared work of making a home.

Verses for Waking Up Grateful for Each Other

The first group focuses on gratitude and the simple act of noticing God’s kindness before the coffee is finished. These passages remind a couple that every new day is a gift, and that love grows when both people start from thankfulness rather than from what is missing.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Every sunrise is evidence that God’s mercy has not run out overnight. Before you speak to your spouse, try saying one thing you are thankful for about them, so the first words of the day carry gratitude instead of hurry.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

This verse invites you to call the day good before you know what it will hold. Name one ordinary moment you expect to share together, a shared breakfast or a walk to the car, and receive it as part of the day the Lord has made.

Psalm 90:14

Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

(WEB)

The psalmist asks God to satisfy us in the morning so that we can sing and rejoice all our days. Pray this over your marriage as you part for work, asking that the morning’s first hour would fill you both with a steady joy that lasts beyond the commute.

Verses for Mornings When Plans Go Wrong

Newlyweds quickly learn that mornings do not always cooperate, with late alarms, missed buses and tense words over small things. This group offers verses for starting again when the day has already started badly and a couple needs patience and a reset.

Lamentations 3:23

They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

When the morning has gone sideways, this verse points to a God who is new in his compassion every day. Let it be the reason you both choose to begin again, even after a sharp exchange, rather than letting one bad start set the tone for the hours ahead.

Ephesians 4:26

“Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath…

(WEB)

Paul acknowledges that anger can arise and tells believers not to let the sun go down on it. In the early hours, this means you can name a frustration calmly and agree to talk it through before the day closes, so a small irritation does not become a grudge by evening.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

(WEB)

A gentle answer can change the temperature of a whole morning. When you feel the urge to snap at a spouse who has forgotten something, try softening your tone first, and notice how much calmer the rest of the routine becomes.

Colossians 3:12-13

12 Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Compassion, kindness and forgiveness are clothing you put on deliberately each day. Before the first meeting or the drive to work, choose which of these you will wear toward each other, and forgive the small things quickly so they do not follow you out the door.

Verses for Asking God to Lead the Day Together

These passages turn the couple’s attention outward and upward, asking God to direct decisions, work and relationships. They suit a morning prayer time, whether it lasts two minutes or twenty, and they help you bring your shared future before the Lord rather than managing it alone.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Trusting God with all your heart includes the small decisions you make together each morning, from who drives the kids to which bills get paid first. Pray through your list aloud as a couple and ask the Lord to make your paths straight.

Psalm 5:3

The LORD, in the morning you shall hear my voice. In the morning I will lay my requests before you, and will watch expectantly.

(WEB)

The psalmist speaks of laying his requests before God in the morning and watching for his answer. Make this a habit: name one concern you share as a couple and wait quietly for a moment before going on with the day.

Psalm 143:8

Cause me to hear your loving kindness in the morning, for I trust in you. Cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to you.

(WEB)

Asking to hear God’s unfailing love in the morning is a request every couple can make. Ask him to show you each day which way to walk together, especially when a decision about work, money or family has to be made before evening.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

When you lack wisdom for a decision, James tells you to ask God, who gives generously. Write a question that is weighing on you both on a card, read it at breakfast, and agree to ask God for the answer together before you talk it over.

Matthew 6:11

Give us today our daily bread.

(WEB)

Jesus taught his followers to ask for daily bread, which keeps each day’s needs in view rather than the whole year at once. Praying this with your spouse each morning reminds you that God provides for today, and that you can trust him with tomorrow.

How to Use These Verses

Write two or three of these verses on an index card and place it where you both will see it, such as beside the coffee maker, on the bathroom mirror or inside a cabinet door you open every morning. Rotate the cards weekly so the words stay fresh and you do not read past them out of habit.

Pick a fixed moment, even a brief one, to read a verse aloud before the day begins, and pray it back to God in a sentence or two. Some couples find it easier to read a passage on their phones during a coffee break before work, while others keep a small notebook where they record what each verse meant to them that week.

A Short Prayer for Newlyweds

Lord, thank you for the gift of this new day and for the marriage you have given us to live in together. Help us to wake up grateful for each other and to speak to one another with gentleness, especially when plans fall apart or tempers run short. Teach us to forgive quickly, to trust you with our decisions and to ask for your wisdom before we ask for our own way. Walk with us through the ordinary hours ahead and make our home a place where your love is known. Amen.
