This morning prayer is for finding peace before the day’s demands start pressing in. Pray it as you wake, in the kitchen with a cup of coffee, or in the car before you walk through the office door. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the spaces between its lines.
Morning Prayer for Finding Peace
Lord, I am waking up to a day I have not yet lived, and already my mind is running ahead of me. I think about the meeting at nine, the phone call I keep putting off, the bills on the counter, the person who was short with me yesterday and may be short again today. Quiet my thoughts for a moment. Show me that you were awake before I was, and that you already know every hour that is coming.
Father, let me set down the weight I have been carrying in my chest since I opened my eyes. Help me stop rehearsing arguments that have not happened and worries that may never arrive. Where I am anxious about my work, my family, my health or my finances, meet me there and steady my breathing. Give me enough peace to do the next small thing well, and trust you with the rest.
Holy Spirit, go before me into the people I will meet today. Make me patient with the tired cashier, the child who will not get dressed, the coworker who needs help, and the friend who needs to be heard. Let your calm settle over my hands as I work and over my tongue as I speak. I want to walk into this day steady, not because everything is settled, but because you are with me. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I feel my thoughts racing before the day has even begun. Slow me down. Take the worries I am holding and place them in your hands for now. Give me a steady heart for the next hour, and help me remember that you are near. Let your peace guard my mind as I step into what is ahead. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Paul names anxiety directly and then points to prayer as the way to hand it over. Pray these words slowly, bringing one specific worry at a time to God, and then wait for the peace he promises to settle in.
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

This verse invites you to pause long enough to remember who God is. Before you start your list, be still for a few breaths and let the reminder of his greatness reorder your priorities.

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

Jesus sets his peace apart from the peace the world offers. Pray this verse by telling him which kind of peace you are tempted to chase today, and ask him to give you his instead.
How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this prayer in the first ten minutes after you wake, before you pick up your phone or check messages. Sit on the edge of the bed or stand at a window where you can see the sky. If you can, put one hand flat on the table or over your heart as you speak, so your body has something to do while your mind slows down.
If you share a home, consider praying it together with a spouse, roommate or child, taking turns with the lines. Many people also find it helpful to write the names of the people they will meet that day on a card and keep it in a pocket, so that when worry starts, the prayer has specific faces attached to it.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into this day and walk beside you through every hour. May his peace guard your heart and steady your thoughts when pressure rises. Whatever this day brings, may you rest in the certainty that you are held by the One who made the morning.
