This morning prayer is for the people you work alongside, the ones you will greet at the coffee machine, sit across from in meetings, and depend on or feel tension with before the day is over. Pray it on the drive in, at your desk before you open email, or while the kettle heats. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayer for My Coworkers

Lord, I come to you before the first meeting and the first message fills my inbox. You know the names of the people I will see today. You know the deadlines they are carrying, the worries they haven’t mentioned to anyone, and the conversations that may not go well. I ask you to go ahead of us into this day. Settle the anxious ones and give them clear thinking. Where someone is grieving, sick, or waiting on news about a family member, hold them close and let them feel that they are not alone in the building.

Father, give me patience with the colleague who frustrates me and generosity toward the one who is quietly struggling. Keep my tongue from sharp words and my heart from keeping score. When I am tempted to take credit, let me share it. When I see a mistake, let me correct it with kindness rather than pride. Help me notice who needs a word of encouragement, a hand with a task, or simply a friendly greeting today.

Thank you that you are at work with us, not only in church on Sunday. Make us honest, careful, and fair in the things we do together. Let our team be a place where people can speak truth without fear and where good work is recognized. I trust you with the outcomes I cannot control. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, before I walk into the office, I ask you to bless the people I will meet. Calm the stressed, comfort the weary, and give wisdom to anyone making a hard decision. Help me to speak gently, listen well, and act with integrity. Let me be someone who makes this workplace a little lighter for the people around me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 2:3-4

3 Doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; 4 each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

(WEB)

Paul asks believers to set aside rivalry and vanity and to look out for the interests of others. Use this passage to ask God to help you see your coworkers’ needs before you think about your own schedule or reputation today.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

This verse reminds you that your work matters to God, whatever the task. Pray it over the spreadsheet, the phone calls, and the small jobs that no one will praise, asking God to let your effort honor him.

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

(WEB)

Paul speaks about the kind of words that build others up. Ask God to guard your speech in meetings, hallways, and group messages, so that what you say today helps the people who hear it.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Trust and submission to God shape the way we make choices. Pray this as you face the decisions and uncertainties of the workday, asking the Lord to guide each step in your dealings with your team.

Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

(WEB)

Paul hopes believers will live peaceably with everyone as far as it depends on them. Pray this over any strained relationship on your team, asking God to help you do your part toward peace even when others resist it.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a set moment before your day gets loud, such as the first five minutes at your desk, the drive in, or the walk from the parking lot to the door. Pray it slowly, pausing after each name or situation you bring to mind. If a particular coworker comes to your thoughts, add a sentence about them. Keeping a short list on a note in your phone can help you remember the people and needs you want to lift up each morning.

Consider inviting a fellow believer at work, or a spouse or friend at home, to pray the same prayer with you on a regular basis. Praying together for the same team helps you stay humble and keeps you from becoming judgmental about people you find difficult. If you lead others, you might offer to pray for the team at the start of a meeting, asking the group whether there is anything they would like you to include.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before each person you work with today and steady their steps. May he give them peace in the middle of pressure, wisdom in every decision, and kind people to meet them along the way. May the Lord make your workplace a place where his goodness can be seen.
