This morning prayer is for lifting your mother and father to God before the day starts. You can pray it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and add the names, worries and hopes that are on your heart. It works well over coffee, in the car, or before you pick up the phone to call home.
Morning Prayer for My Parents
Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of my mother and father. Before the house wakes up and the day pulls us in different directions, I bring them to you first. Be near them in their waking hours. Give them rest from the nights that were long, and steady hands for the tasks that wait for them today, whether that is work, errands, medical appointments, or the quiet chores that fill an ordinary Tuesday. Where my dad feels tired or my mom feels worried, be their strength. Where either of them is carrying something they have not told me, let them feel you carrying it with them.
Father, guard their health and their hearts. Keep their minds clear and their words kind, especially toward each other and toward the people they will meet today. Protect them on the road, in the kitchen, and in every place where a small mistake could become a painful one. Remind them that they are loved, not only by me but by you, and that their worth does not depend on how well this day goes. Let them sense your presence in the middle of the noise, and let something good find its way into their day that they can thank you for tonight. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I ask you to go before my parents today. Keep them safe, give them strength for what they must do, and let them feel your peace in their hearts. Show them a kindness they did not expect, and help me to love them well when I see them later. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this in the first few minutes after you wake, before you check your phone or start the coffee. Sitting at the kitchen table with your hands around a warm mug can help you slow down enough to speak to God. If you live far from your parents, pray with a photo of them nearby or open your calendar to see what they have planned for the day.
You can also invite someone else to join you. A sibling, a spouse, or a friend who knows your family can pray the same words in their own morning routine, so that your parents are being lifted up by more than one voice. Ask them to pray for specific needs you know about, and let them tell you what they are carrying for your family too.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless your mother and father today and keep them in his care. May he make his face shine upon them, grant them grace for every hour, and give them a quiet confidence that they are never walking alone.
