This morning prayer is for the moment before the day takes hold, when you want peace in your heart and protection over the hours ahead. Pray it as soon as you wake, while the house is quiet or while you sit with your first cup of coffee. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where your day feels heavier.
Morning Prayer for Peace and Protection
Lord, I come to You before the noise of this day begins. You know the list already running through my mind: the meeting I am dreading, the phone call I have been putting off, the people I will see who are carrying their own burdens. Settle my thoughts now. Let the first things I think about today be You, not the worries that want to crowd in before I have even got out of bed.
Guard my going out and my coming in. Watch over the drive to work, the kids getting ready for school, the errands and the conversations I cannot predict. Protect my body, my home, and the people I love from harm I can see and from harm I cannot. Where I feel anxious, give me a steady breath and a quiet reminder that I am not carrying this day alone. Give me patience with the people I meet and the wisdom to handle what comes up. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I give You this day before it starts. Be my peace when things feel unsettled, and be my shelter when I cannot see what is ahead. Keep me and the people I love safe as we go about our work and our errands. Let me meet each hour with calm trust in You. Thank You for going before me today. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Find a spot where you can sit for a few minutes before the day pulls you away: a chair by the window, the edge of the bed, or the kitchen table after the coffee is poured. Keep something in your hands while you pray, such as a mug, a Bible, or a small cross, so your body stays settled and your attention has an anchor.
If you share your home, invite a spouse, child or roommate to pray it with you, or ask a friend to pray it for you by name. Some people write the prayer on an index card and keep it in a pocket or on the dashboard to read again at a red light or before a difficult conversation.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you today and walk beside you wherever you travel. May His peace settle over your thoughts and His protection surround your home, your work and the people you love. Go in calm confidence, knowing you are held.
