This prayer is for the moment before the day takes hold, when you ask God to make your heart open, humble and willing to learn. Pray it first thing in the morning, before you check your phone or step into your work, school or family responsibilities. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words in where they fit your day.
Morning Prayers for a Teachable Spirit
Father, I come to You before the noise of this day starts. I confess that I often come to it already certain of what I know, quick to defend my opinions and slow to hear anyone who sees things differently. Some of that is pride, and some of it is simply fear of being wrong in front of people. Quiet the part of me that wants to be right more than I want to be taught. Give me ears that listen to my coworker, my teenager, my spouse and even the critic I wish were not correct.
Today I will meet people who know things I do not. I will receive correction on a report, feedback from a supervisor, a question from a child that shows my own gaps. Help me take each of these as a gift rather than a threat. Where I need to change my mind, give me the courage to say so without bitterness. Where I am still right, give me gentleness in how I say it. Teach me to ask good questions and to wait for the answers.
Lord, make me a learner all day long. Let my first response to anything new be curiosity and not defense. Keep my heart soft toward You as well, so that when You speak through Scripture, prayer or a wise friend, I do not argue my way out of it. Thank You that You are the Teacher who never runs out of patience with me. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am already tempted to defend myself before I have heard the whole thing. Slow my mouth and open my ears. Help me to listen first, to ask before I assume, and to receive what You want to show me through the people around me today. Make me willing to learn something new before the day is over. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray this prayer before you pick up your phone or start your first task, while the house is still quiet or while you drink your coffee in the car. If you have a notebook, write down one thing you expect to be corrected on today and pray about that specific moment. Keeping your hands busy with the pen or your coffee cup can help you stay present instead of drifting into rehearsing what you plan to say.
A parent, spouse or close friend can pray this prayer over you, or you can pray it together over breakfast. Praying it with someone who knows your tendencies can help you name the places where you tend to resist being taught. Come back to it at lunch if the morning went differently than you hoped.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord open your ears to hear what He is saying and your heart to receive it with joy. May He make you patient with those who are still learning and humble enough to keep learning yourself. May His wisdom guide each conversation you have today, and may you walk out of this day a little wiser than you walked in.
