Morning Prayers for My Coworkers: Words to Pray Before the Workday Begins

This is a morning prayer for the people you work beside, the ones you will greet at the coffee machine, sit across from in meetings, and quietly worry about in the middle of a hard week. Pray it before you open your email or walk into the office, while the day still feels unclaimed. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayers for My Coworkers

Lord, I come to you before the first meeting and the first request arrives. You already know the names I will see today. You know who is carrying a sick parent, who is anxious about a review, who is grieving something no one at work has noticed, and who is quietly doing more than their share. Father, I ask you to go ahead of me into every room and to be at work in each of their lives before I ever say a word.

Give my coworkers rest where they are tired and courage where they feel small. Keep their families safe while they are away from home, and give them peace in the hours when they cannot be with the people they love. Where there is tension between us, soften my heart first and then theirs. Help me be patient when I am tempted to be curt, honest when I am tempted to hide, and kind when no one is watching. Let my words today lift people up instead of wearing them down. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, before I walk in this morning, I place my coworkers in your hands. Be with the ones who are struggling and the ones who are doing well. Give us patience with each other, honesty in our work, and kindness when we are short on time. Help me see them the way you see them, and let me be a steady, encouraging presence today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 2:4

Each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

(WEB)

Paul asks each person to look beyond their own interests. Pray this over your coworkers by asking God to show you one specific need you usually overlook today.

Romans 12:10

In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honor preferring one another…

(WEB)

This verse describes affection and honor between believers. Pray it as a request that your workplace would show genuine care, especially toward the people who are easiest to ignore.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Paul reminds us that our work can be offered to the Lord. Pray that your coworkers would sense a purpose in their tasks, even the repetitive or thankless ones.

Galatians 6:2

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

(WEB)

This verse calls us to carry one another’s burdens. Pray that you would notice when a coworker is struggling and that you would have the courage to offer help.

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

(WEB)

Paul speaks about words that build others up. Pray that your conversations today would be useful and encouraging to everyone you speak with.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this while you are still at home, with your coffee in hand before you check your phone. Keep a short list of the coworkers you expect to see that day, and let your eyes move down the list as you pray. If you have a few minutes at your desk before the day starts, you can also pray silently as you turn on your computer.

You might invite a friend or spouse to pray with you, especially if one of your coworkers is facing a hard season. Some people keep a small note with names on it and pray through it each morning. Whatever method you choose, come back to it on the days when you feel too busy, because those are often the days your coworkers need prayer most.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before your coworkers today and walk beside them through every task. May they feel his peace in the middle of pressure, his strength when they are weary, and his kindness when they are misunderstood. And may they know, through your steady presence, that they are seen and cared for.
