This is a morning prayer for the decisions you will face today, from the small choices about what to say and what to do first to the bigger questions that have been sitting on your mind. Pray it when you first wake up, before your phone and before your to-do list take over. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words to the things you are carrying.

Morning Prayers for My Decisions

Lord, I start this day knowing that I will have to choose many times before the evening comes. Some of those choices will be small, like how I answer a hard email, what I say when a coworker asks for help, or whether I speak up in a meeting or stay quiet. Others may weigh more, like a job offer, a money question, a conversation I have been avoiding, or a decision about someone I love. I do not want to make these choices on impulse or only to please the people around me. Give me a clear head this morning and a quiet heart.

Father, I ask you for wisdom, the kind that sees what is true and good in a situation and does not pretend otherwise. Show me what matters most today and what can wait. Keep me from deciding out of fear, from pride, or from the need to be finished quickly. Where I already know what you are asking of me, give me the courage to do it. Where I am unsure, give me patience to wait for your direction and not force an answer. Help me to listen before I speak and to pray before I act.

Lord, I place my plans for this day in your hands, and I trust you with the outcomes I cannot control. Guide my steps, correct my thinking where it has gone wrong, and go before me into every meeting, phone call, and quiet moment alone. Whatever I choose today, let it reflect your goodness and your truth. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I have a decision in front of me right now, and I do not want to rush it. Give me wisdom for the next choice and the strength to act on what I know is right. Quiet my fear and steady my hands. Help me to speak and act with honesty and kindness today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

Pray this verse first, asking God plainly for the wisdom you lack for the decisions in front of you today. Take the promise at face value and let it shape the way you begin your prayer.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this passage to surrender your own understanding of the day. Name the specific choice you are worried about and ask God to make your paths straight as you go into it.

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

(WEB)

Pray this as a request to be guided, not driven. Ask God to teach you the way you should go, and to keep his eye on you through the decisions that come before lunch and into the afternoon.

Micah 6:8

He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

(WEB)

Let this verse set the standard for your choices. Ask God to help you act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly in the specific tasks and conversations that fill your morning.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Bring this verse into the ordinary work of your day. Pray that whatever you decide about your tasks, you will do them wholeheartedly for the Lord and not only for the approval of others.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try to pray this before you check messages or pick up your phone, while you are still sitting on the edge of the bed or at the kitchen table with a cup of something warm. Keep a notebook nearby and write down the two or three decisions you expect to face today. As you read the prayer, pause at each one and ask God for the wisdom you need for that particular choice. Many people find that a few quiet minutes with pen in hand helps them think more clearly than trying to pray with a head still full of sleep.

If you live with someone or have a friend who is also facing hard choices, consider praying this prayer together or asking them to pray it for you. You might also keep a short printed copy in your bag, on your desk, or taped inside a cabinet door, so you can return to it in the middle of the day when a difficult decision lands on you without warning. Let the prayer be a steady starting point rather than a rule you must perform perfectly.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord give wisdom to the one who asks, and clarity to every choice made today. May he steady your heart when the decisions feel heavy and go before you into every room you enter. May you walk in peace, knowing you are guided by a God who is faithful to lead.
