This morning prayer is for anyone who wakes up carrying a strained or broken relationship, whether with a spouse, a parent, a child, a friend, or a coworker. Pray it as you start your day, before the phone buzzes and the day’s tensions gather. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayers for Restored Relationships

Lord, I come to you before the day begins, and I bring you the people I have hurt, the people who have hurt me, and the silence that has grown between us. You know the conversations I have been avoiding and the messages I have typed and deleted. Give me the courage to take the first step today, even if it is small, and give me the humility to listen more than I speak.

Soften my heart where it has grown hard, and soften theirs where I cannot reach. Remove the pride that tells me I was right and the fear that tells me it is too late. Help me to see the other person as someone you love, not as a problem to solve. Where I have been wrong, let me say so plainly, without excuses. Where they have been wrong, let me forgive without keeping a list.

Go before me into every meeting, every phone call, and every shared meal today. Speak through my words and quiet my reactions. Bring the healing that only you can bring, and if reconciliation is not possible today, give me peace to trust you with the outcome. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I need you right now. Please mend what is broken between me and the person on my mind. Give me gentle words, a patient spirit, and a willingness to forgive. Help me reflect your love in the next conversation I have today. Restore what I cannot repair on my own. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

Pray this verse by naming the specific relationship you are bringing to God. Ask for the wisdom to do your part fully, and the grace to release the parts that depend on the other person.

Matthew 5:23-24

23 “If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Jesus places reconciliation before worship. Ask God to show you whether there is someone you need to go to today, and pray for the courage to make that move without delay.

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and let it shape your prayer. Ask God to make you kind and tender-hearted, and to help you forgive as you have already been forgiven.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

Paul ties forgiveness to the memory of God’s forgiveness of us. Pray that the grievances you carry would loosen their grip as you remember how much you have been forgiven.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

(WEB)

Ask God to guard your tongue this morning. Pray for a gentle answer when you feel provoked, and for the self-control to pause before you speak.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer while you are still in bed or while your coffee is brewing, before your phone and your inbox claim your attention. Keep a small notebook nearby and write down the name of the person you are praying for. Some people find it helpful to hold a cup or a pen in their hands, letting the physical act remind them to open their fists and release the hurt.

You might also invite a trusted friend, spouse, or small group to pray this prayer with you, or for you on the days when your own words feel thin. Asking someone to stand with you in prayer can make the next honest conversation feel less lonely.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who reconciled us to himself go with you into this day. May he give you patience with the people you love and gentleness with those who are hard to love. May the peace of Christ settle over every relationship you touch, and may the grace you have received overflow into every word you speak.
