This night prayer is for the friends on your heart as the day winds down. It is meant to be said before bed, when the house is quiet and your mind is still turning over conversations, worries and people you love. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own names and needs in your own words.
Night Prayer for My Friends
Lord, the day is ending, and I bring my friends to You before I close my eyes. You know each of them by name, including the ones I have not spoken to in a while and the ones I see every day. You know the late phone calls, the unpaid bills, the test results they are still waiting on, and the quiet fears they have not told anyone. I ask You to sit with them in their kitchens, cars and bedrooms tonight, and to be nearer to them than any worry.
Father, I ask You to give my friends rest that goes deeper than sleep. Settle the thoughts that keep circling in their heads and loosen the grip of the things they could not fix today. Where someone is grieving, hold them. Where someone is angry or lonely, meet them there. Keep watch over their families, their children, their marriages and their work, and guard them through the dark hours when they cannot guard themselves. Let them wake to a morning that feels like a fresh start.
Thank You for the friends You have given me, for their laughter, their patience and the ways they have shown me Your kindness. Help me to love them well tomorrow, and to be honest with them about my own need. I trust You with the night and with all of them. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I lift my friends to You as the day ends. Give them peace where there is fear, rest where there is exhaustion, and company where there is loneliness. Watch over them while they sleep and meet them with Your kindness when they wake. Thank You for them. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this at the end of the day, after the lights are off and before you pick up your phone again. Sit on the edge of your bed or kneel beside it, and keep your hands open in your lap or resting on your knees. If it helps, write down the names of two or three friends beforehand so you can speak each one aloud as you come to them.
You can also invite someone else to pray it with you, a spouse, a roommate or a friend who knows the same people. Take turns reading the prayer line by line, and let each person add a name or need before you finish with Amen. Sharing it this way makes the prayer feel less like a list and more like a conversation about people you both love.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord watch over your friends tonight and give them rest that reaches their hearts. May He be their shelter when they are afraid and their strength when they are weary. May they wake to mercy that is new and to a God who has not forgotten them.
