This prayer is for anyone who wants to bring their boss before God, whether the relationship is smooth, strained, or somewhere in between. It works well to pray on the drive in, before a difficult meeting, or at the end of the day when the week’s decisions are still on your mind. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Prayer for My Boss

Lord, I bring my boss to you today. You know the pressures on them that I can only guess at: the deadlines handed down from above, the people who depend on their judgment, the late-night worries about numbers and decisions that never make it into a meeting. Give them wisdom when they have to choose between good options and hard ones. Steady their temper when things go wrong, and soften their heart toward the people they lead, including me.

Father, where there is tension between us, I ask you to do the work I cannot do alone. Help me speak honestly and kindly, and help me listen well when I disagree. Guard my attitude so that I do not grumble or quietly resent the direction I am given. If my boss is carrying something heavy at home or in their body, meet them there with comfort I cannot give. Let them see your goodness in how I work and in how I treat them. Give them rest, clarity, and a sense that they are not carrying the job by themselves. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, bless my boss today. Give them wisdom for the decisions in front of them, patience with the people around them, and peace in the pressures they cannot escape. Help me to work with honesty and good will, and make me kind when it is hard. Thank you that they are known and cared for by you. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

Pray this for your boss when they face a decision with no clear answer. Ask God to give them the wisdom they lack, and ask him to give it generously, without making them feel small for needing it.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this when your boss seems stuck or anxious about direction. Pray that they would trust God more than their own reasoning and that he would make their path clear one step at a time.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Pray this for your boss when stress is wearing them down. Ask that they would bring their worries to God in prayer and experience a peace that stays with them through the workday.

Colossians 3:23

And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…

(WEB)

Ask God to help your boss see their work as service to him, not only to a company or a schedule. Pray that this would bring meaning and steadiness to tasks that feel ordinary or thankless.

Romans 12:18

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

(WEB)

Pray this when relationships at work feel strained. Ask God to help you and your boss pursue peace where it is possible, and to give you both the grace to leave the rest in his hands.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray for their boss in the car before walking into the office, when the day has not yet started pulling at them. If you have a few minutes at your desk, a quiet moment before a meeting with your boss works just as well. Keep a small notebook or a note on your phone with the names of specific concerns, such as a upcoming review or a family situation they have mentioned, so you can return to them.

It can also help to physically hold something while you pray, like a pen or a coffee cup, so your hands stay busy and your mind does not wander. Consider asking a trusted coworker or friend to pray for your boss alongside you, especially during seasons of conflict or change. Praying together can soften your own heart and keep you from seeing your boss only as a problem to be managed.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord give your boss wisdom for each decision and peace for each heavy day. May he guard their heart, strengthen their hands for the work ahead, and remind them that they are seen and valued by the one who made them. And may you walk in the same grace as you go back to your work.
