This prayer is for the moments when life feels unfair: when effort goes unrewarded, when someone else seems to get the breaks you did not, or when a hard season simply will not make sense. You can pray it in the quiet of the morning, in the car before walking into a difficult meeting, or late at night when the frustration keeps you awake. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same honest spirit.

Prayer When Life Feels Unfair

Lord, I am tired of feeling that the scales are tipped against me. I have done what I was asked, I have tried to be faithful, and still the outcome feels wrong. Some days it is a job or a bill or a diagnosis. Other days it is the sense that other people are given easier roads while I carry more than my share. I do not want to pretend I am fine when I am not. Please hear the anger underneath my words, and please do not let me hide it from you.

You see what is fair and what is not, even when I cannot. You are not indifferent to injustice, and you do not look away from the people who are hurt by it. So I bring you the parts of this I cannot fix. Give me clear eyes to tell what is in my control from what is not. Keep my heart from turning bitter, and show me where I need to forgive, even when I do not feel like it. Where I have been wronged, I trust you to act with justice in your own time. Where I have made my own mistakes, show me honestly and gently.

Hold me steady while I wait for answers that may not come quickly. Remind me that my worth is not measured by how fairly I am treated, and that you have never stopped caring for me. Give me enough rest, enough courage, and enough hope to take the next small step. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this feels unfair, and I am tired of pretending it does not. Hear my frustration without my having to explain it perfectly. Show me what I can do today and what I need to leave with you. Keep my heart soft and my hope alive, and remind me that you see every part of this. Help me take one faithful step at a time. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 37:1-3

1 Don’t fret because of evildoers, neither be envious against those who work unrighteousness. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither like the green herb. 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture.

(WEB)

Use these words when you are tempted to envy those who seem to prosper unjustly. Ask God to help you trust him more than you resent others, and to give you a steady way of living while you wait.

Romans 12:19

Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel the urge to get even. Ask God to take the justice you long for into his own hands, and to free you from carrying a grudge that belongs to him to settle.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

When the unfairness has left you brokenhearted, pray this verse slowly. Thank God that he is near in exactly the places where you feel most crushed, and ask him to draw close to you now.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Bring this passage to God when you feel worn out by the weight of things that seem unjust. Ask him to renew your strength so that you can keep going without giving up on him or on yourself.

Matthew 5:44

But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you…

(WEB)

This verse is hard to pray when you are hurt. Ask God to soften your heart toward the people who wronged you, and to give you the grace to pray for them even before you feel ready.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when you can be alone and unhurried, such as first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee or in the evening after the house has gone quiet. Sit somewhere you can be still, and keep a pen nearby. If the feeling of unfairness is strong, you may want to write down the specific situation first, then pray the words above over it. Some people find it helpful to hold something in their hands, like a worn stone or a wedding ring, as a reminder to bring their anger to God rather than carry it alone.

You do not have to pray this alone. Ask a trusted friend, a pastor, or a small group to pray it with you or for you. Tell them what feels unfair and ask them to keep praying with you in the weeks ahead. Sharing the burden with others can help you see your situation with a steadier view, and it reminds you that God often works through the people who love us.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord see every unfair thing you have carried and meet you in it with patient, faithful love. May he give you wisdom for what is yours to do, peace for what is not, and a heart that stays open to his goodness. May you rest tonight knowing that your life is held in hands far more just and far more kind than any circumstance.
