This page gives you a written prayer to pray before a meeting, whether it is a job interview, a difficult conversation with a manager, a school parent-teacher conference, or a meeting where you will need to speak up for something that matters. Pray it in the few minutes before you walk in, in the car, or at your desk. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words in where they fit.

Prayers Before a Meeting

Lord, I come to you before this meeting with a mind that is already racing. I am thinking about what might be asked of me, what I might forget to say, and how I might sound if I get nervous. Slow my thoughts down. Help me remember that you know every detail of this day before I do, and that nothing that happens in that room is outside your sight.

Give me clear thinking and a calm voice. Help me listen well before I speak, so that I understand what the people across from me actually need. If I am tempted to prove myself or to win, take that from me and give me a desire to be honest, fair and kind. Let me be the kind of person who says what is true without cruelty, and who admits what I do not know without shame.

Whatever the outcome, I place it in your hands. Help me accept a yes, a no or a wait with a settled heart, knowing that my worth does not depend on how this goes. Thank you that you go into rooms like this with me. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am about to walk into this meeting and my heart is pounding. Steady me. Help me listen, speak clearly and be honest. Give me wisdom for the questions I cannot predict, and peace about the result. I trust you with this room and with the people in it. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Philippians 4:6

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

(WEB)

Before a meeting, this verse invites you to name your worries to God in specific terms rather than carrying them silently. Turn each fear into a short request, and let thanksgiving sit alongside it.

James 1:5

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel unprepared for a question you might be asked. Ask God for the wisdom you lack, trusting that he gives it generously and does not scold you for needing it.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release your need to control how the meeting unfolds. Pray it as a surrender of your plans, asking God to guide the conversation and the steps that follow.

Colossians 4:6

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

(WEB)

Pray this for your words. Ask God to make your speech gracious and seasoned with truth, so that whatever you say in the meeting builds up the people who hear it.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

When your thoughts are racing, read this slowly and let it interrupt the noise. Ask God to help you be still before you speak, trusting that he is present in the room.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try to pray this in the five to ten minutes before the meeting starts. If you can, find a quiet spot such as a stairwell, a parked car or an empty office. Keep your hands busy in a simple way, like holding a pen, a cup of water or the edge of your bag, so your body has something to do while your mind settles. Breathe slowly as you pray each section.

You can also ask someone you trust, such as a spouse, friend or prayer partner, to pray this with you or for you before a big meeting. Many people find it helps to send a short text asking for prayer beforehand. Having someone else carry the meeting in prayer can remind you that you do not walk into it alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go into that room before you do and make the way ready. May he give you clear thoughts, honest words and a calm heart, and may he meet you in every question. Whatever happens next, may you walk out knowing you were held the whole time.
