These prayers are for parents, grandparents, and other caring adults who want to lift up the children in their lives as they make, keep, and sometimes lose friends. You can pray them in the car on the way to school, at bedtime, or whenever a friendship worry is weighing on your mind. Read them aloud as written, or use them as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Prayers for Children’s Friendships
Lord, you know every child by name, and you know the ache of a playground that feels too big and a lunch table that feels too full. I bring before you the friendships of the children I love. Give them hearts that are kind and open, and help them to notice the child sitting alone and to make room for them. Where a friendship is good, make it strong. Where it is hurting them, show them what to do and whom to trust.
Guard them from cruelty, from gossip, and from the pressure to be someone they are not. Teach them to be loyal without being used, and generous without losing themselves. When they are left out or misunderstood, comfort them, and remind them that they are never alone with you. Give me patience to listen when they talk and wisdom to know when to step in and when to let them learn. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I give you the friendships of my children today. Make them kind and make them honest. Help them to be a good friend to someone who needs one, and to choose friends who build them up. When they feel hurt or forgotten, be close to them. Give me calm words when I speak with them and a listening ear when they come to me. Amen.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Colossians 3:12-13
12 Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.
(WEB)
Pray that your children will clothe themselves in compassion and patience with their friends. Ask God to help them forgive quickly when a friend hurts them, just as they have been forgiven.
How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying the longer version at bedtime, when the day has settled and your child is most likely to talk about what happened at school. Sit on the edge of the bed, or hold a hand while you pray. Many parents find it helpful to pray with a child rather than only for them, so the child hears that friendships are worth bringing to God.
You might also keep the shorter prayer for busy moments: while driving to practice, while folding laundry, or while waiting for a pickup. Invite a spouse, a grandparent, or a trusted friend to pray the same words, so that your child’s friendships are carried by more than one person who loves them.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before your children into every playground, classroom, and group chat. May he give them friends who are faithful, kind, and good for their hearts. And may they know, in every season of friendship, that they are deeply loved by the One who never leaves them.
