This page offers a written prayer for siblings, the brothers and sisters who share your history, your family table and sometimes your hardest memories. It is meant to be prayed when you feel the distance between you and a sibling, when someone you love is struggling, or when you simply want to ask God to bless the people who grew up alongside you. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in its place.

Prayers for Siblings

Lord, thank You for the brothers and sisters You have given me. Some of them I have known my whole life, and some I have only come to know as adults. Thank You that family is Your idea, and that You placed us together long before we had any say in it. I confess that our relationship is not always easy. There have been old hurts, careless words, years of silence, and differences in how we see the world. Soften my heart toward them where I have grown hard, and show me where I need to ask forgiveness.

Father, I pray for each of my siblings by name. Watch over their health, their work, their finances and their marriages or friendships. Where they are lonely, be near to them. Where they are afraid, give them a peace that does not depend on circumstances. Where they have wandered from You, draw them back with patience and kindness. Let them know they are loved, not because of what they have done, but because they belong to You.

Lord, make us a family that can disagree without despising one another. Give us wisdom in our conversations, gentleness in our corrections and generosity in our forgiveness. When we are tempted to compete or compare, remind us that we are on the same side. Bind us together in love, and let our bond point others toward Your faithfulness. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I bring my brothers and sisters to You right now. You know the weight they are carrying today and the things I cannot fix for them. Give them rest, clarity and a sense of Your nearness. Heal what is broken between us, and help me speak and listen with love. Keep us close, even when we are far apart. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 133:1

See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!

(WEB)

Read this slowly and let it shape your request for unity. Ask God to make your siblings’ togetherness a real and pleasant thing, not just a duty you both carry.

Romans 12:10

In love of the brothers be tenderly affectionate to one another; in honor preferring one another…

(WEB)

Use this verse to ask for affection that goes first. Pray that you and your siblings would each be quick to honor the other, even when honor does not come naturally.

Ephesians 4:32

And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

(WEB)

When old grievances resurface, bring this verse before God. Ask Him to help you forgive as you have been forgiven, and to free your siblings from the same debt.

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over the times your siblings are in trouble. Ask God to make you the kind of brother or sister who shows up, and to bring someone to stand with them when you cannot.

Colossians 3:13

Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

(WEB)

This verse can guide a prayer for patience with one another’s flaws. Ask God to help each of you bear with the other and to keep choosing grace when friction returns.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray for siblings in the quiet of early morning, before the day’s messages and obligations arrive. Sit at a kitchen table or in a favorite chair with a cup of something warm. You might hold a photo of your siblings in your hands as you pray, or write their names on a small card and keep it in your pocket. Letting your hands be occupied can help your mind stay on the people you are asking God to bless.

You do not have to pray this alone. Consider asking a parent, a spouse or a trusted friend to pray with you, especially if a sibling relationship has become strained. Sharing the prayer with someone else can also help you notice when God is answering it, sometimes through a phone call, a shared memory or a small act of kindness you did not expect.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless the brothers and sisters of this family and keep them in His care. May He make their bond a source of strength, their words a source of grace, and their hearts a place of rest. May they know, every day, that they are deeply loved by the God who gave them to one another.
