These prayers are for the month ahead, a stretch of weeks that can feel full of unknowns: work deadlines, family needs, health worries, money questions, and the quiet hope that something good might happen too. Pray them at the start of a new month, on a Sunday evening, or on the first morning you feel ready to plan. You can read them aloud exactly as written, or use them as a starting point and speak your own words where your heart leads.

Prayers for the Month Ahead

Lord, I come to you before the calendar fills up. I do not know everything this month will hold. I know the appointments already on my phone, the bills that need paying, the conversations I am dreading, and the people I love who are carrying things I cannot fix. Go before me into each week. Give me wisdom when I have to make decisions, and steady hands when the work piles up.

Be near to the people in my home and in my life who are struggling this month. Comfort the ones who are grieving, strengthen the ones who are sick, and give rest to anyone running on empty. Where I am the one who needs to change, soften my heart and show me what to do. Keep me from grabbing for control when things feel uncertain, and remind me that you already know the way through.

So I place this month in your hands, with its good days and its hard ones. Teach me to notice your faithfulness in small things, and let me trust you for what I cannot see yet. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, this month is coming at me fast, and I feel the weight of it. Be my steadiness today. Go before me into the meetings, the phone calls and the hard conversations. Watch over the people I love, and guard my heart when I start to worry. Help me take the next faithful step, and leave the rest with you. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

When the month feels crowded, slow down and let this verse call you back to God’s presence. Pray it as an invitation to pause before you rush into the next task, and ask him to quiet the noise in your mind.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Plans are easy to make and hard to trust. Pray these words over your calendar, asking God to guide each decision you face this month and to make your paths straight where you feel lost.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Anxiety tends to rise when we look at the whole month at once. Read this passage slowly, turning each worry into a specific request, and wait for the peace it promises to settle over your thoughts.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Some months bring unexpected losses or fresh mercies. Pray this passage each morning, thanking God for his faithfulness that is new every day, even when the month’s plan has changed.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

When fear arrives with the first hard news of the month, return to this promise. Speak it aloud, naming the specific fear you are facing, and ask God to strengthen and help you in that exact place.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying the full prayer on the first morning of the month, before you check messages or open the day’s list. Choose a quiet spot, such as a chair by a window or your car before you walk into work. Keep a pen nearby so you can write down one or two things you want to watch for God to do over the coming weeks.

If you are praying with someone else, such as a spouse, a roommate or a small group, take turns reading a paragraph each. Let them add their own concerns for the month at the end. Many people find it helpful to come back to this prayer on the last day of the month and note where they saw God at work.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into every week of this month, and may he be your rest when the days grow long. May his peace guard your heart and your home, and may you know, even on the hardest days, that you are held. Walk in his faithfulness, one day at a time.
