In this lesson, children learn that God sees every unfair thing and always stays close to the people who trust him. It suits children aged about 5 to 11 and takes 20 to 30 minutes, including a short story, a memory verse, and a simple activity. Teachers can adjust the reading level for younger or older groups.

Big Idea

God sees when people are treated unfairly, and he is our safe place to run to. When we feel scared or wronged, we can tell him and trust him to help us.

Memory Verse

Psalm 94:22

But the LORD has been my high tower, my God, the rock of my refuge.

(WEB)

Teach the children to hold both fists in front of their chest, then slowly open their arms wide like a door opening. Say the words together with the motion, and let the children repeat it three times. The movement helps them picture God as a strong, safe place to stand.

The Story: Psalm 94 for Kids

A man named David wrote a song to God a long time ago. He had seen bad people being mean to others. Some of them hurt poor families and even people who could not defend themselves. Those bad people said to each other, “God is not watching us.”

David felt sad and worried. He asked God, “How long will bad people keep winning? Please help the people who are being hurt.” He knew that God is the judge of the whole earth and that God always knows what is right.

David remembered a time when he almost fell down. He said, “My foot is slipping!” But God’s love held him up and kept him safe. That is how David knew God would be near him again.

David said something like this to God: “You are my high tower, my safe rock. When I run to you, I am protected.” He trusted that God would not leave his people alone.

So David stopped feeling so afraid. He remembered that God sees everything and that God is good. The song ends with the promise that God will be a safe place for the people who trust him.

Read It Together

Psalm 94:14

For the LORD won’t reject his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.

(WEB)

Point out that God does not turn away from his people. Ask the children to say in their own words what it means that God will not leave his people alone. Remind them that God keeps his promises even when we feel forgotten.

Psalm 94:18

When I said, “My foot is slipping!” Your loving kindness, the LORD, held me up.

(WEB)

Show the children how David was almost falling but God held him up. Ask them to think of a time when they felt like they were slipping and who helped them. Connect that to the idea that God’s love can steady us too.

Psalm 94:9

He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear? He who formed the eye, won’t he see?

(WEB)

Point to the question God asks about hearing and seeing. Explain that the God who made our ears and eyes knows everything we say and do. Let the children know that God is always paying attention to them.

Talk About It

  • What did David ask God to do when he saw people being unfair?
  • How do you think David felt when he said his foot was slipping?
  • What is one thing that makes you feel safe, and how is God like that?
  • Why is it good to know that God sees everything that happens?
  • What is one thing you could tell God the next time you feel scared or sad?

Activity Ideas

Draw a High Tower

You will need paper, crayons or markers, and a pencil. Ask each child to draw a tall tower with a strong rock at the bottom and a small stick figure safely inside. Talk together about how God is our high tower where we can run when we feel afraid. Let each child write one word on their drawing that describes how God keeps them safe.

Slipping and Holding

You will need a open space and a soft ball or beanbag. Have the children stand in a circle and pass the ball, pretending it is hard to hold because they are slipping. Each time someone catches the ball, they say “God holds me up.” This game shows that God’s help is always there when we feel like we are falling.

Safe Place at Home

You will need a sheet of paper and a pencil. Ask children to write or draw a list of places and people at home where they feel safe. Then have them add God to the list as their most important safe place. Encourage them to show the list to a parent at dinner and talk about it together.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Psalm 94 shows that God sees injustice and cares deeply for the vulnerable, such as widows, strangers, and orphans. It also shows that the writer does not pretend hard things are not happening. Instead, the psalm brings those concerns honestly to God and trusts him to act in his own time and way.

Be careful not to suggest that God will always punish wrongdoers immediately or that trusting God makes life easy. Children may confuse this with promises that bad things will never happen to them. Keep the focus on God’s presence, faithfulness, and comfort rather than on fast results.

A Prayer to Close

Lord, thank you that you see everything and that you care about what is fair. Help us to remember that you are our high tower and our safe rock when we feel afraid. When we feel like we are slipping, please hold us up with your love. Amen.
