This page gives you questions and answers for studying Revelation 22, the final chapter of the Bible. It is written for a small group, a Sunday class or personal study, and each set of questions moves from what the text says, to what it means, to how you might live it.
Revelation 22 at a Glance
The chapter opens with a river of life flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb, and a tree of life growing on both sides of it. John describes a restored world where the curse is gone, God’s servants worship and see his face, and night has no place. The angel then confirms that these words are trustworthy, and Jesus speaks three times in the chapter saying “I come quickly.”
The second half turns to warnings and invitations. John is told not to worship the angel, to leave the prophecy unsealed, and to remember that every person will be repaid for what they have done. The chapter ends with the Spirit and the bride calling “Come,” a solemn warning against changing the book, and a closing blessing of grace.
Observation Questions
Use these questions first, before anyone offers an interpretation. Ask the group to point to the words on the page, and let them name what they see before explaining it. Keep the discussion close to the text.
Revelation 22:1-2
1 He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street. On this side of the river and on that was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruits, yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Read these verses first to set the picture of the river and the tree before the group begins its questions. They give the whole chapter its opening vision of God’s life flowing into a healed world.
Revelation 22:3-5
3 There will be no curse any more. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will serve him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 There will be no night, and they need no lamp light; for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever.

These verses describe the end of the curse and the presence of God as the light of his people. Reading them aloud lets the group hear the sharp contrast with the darkness and hardship many of them know.
Revelation 22:12-13
12 “Behold, I come quickly. My reward is with me, to repay to each man according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Jesus speaks directly here about coming soon and about his reward for each person’s work. Reading his own words in the first person helps the group feel the personal weight of the promise.
Revelation 22:17
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” He who hears, let him say, “Come!” He who is thirsty, let him come. He who desires, let him take the water of life freely.

This is the great invitation of the book, extended to anyone who is thirsty. Reading it slowly gives the group a chance to respond, and some may want to pray with the words afterward.
Revelation 22:20-21
20 He who testifies these things says, “Yes, I come quickly.” Amen! Yes, come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with all the saints. Amen.

The chapter closes with a promise, a prayer and a blessing. Ending the reading here reminds the group that the whole book leads to a waiting heart and a Lord who is near.
Memory Verse for Revelation 22
Revelation 22:20
He who testifies these things says, “Yes, I come quickly.” Amen! Yes, come, Lord Jesus.
(WEB)
This verse holds the heart of the chapter in one line: Jesus promises he is coming, and the believer answers with longing. Memorizing it gives you a short prayer to say whenever you need to remember that God’s story is moving toward its good end.
A Closing Prayer for the Group
Father, we thank you for the river of life and the tree that bears fruit for the healing of the nations. We ask that you would take away every curse that still weighs on us and on the people we love. Teach us to keep your words, to worship you alone, and to answer the call of the Spirit and the bride with honest hearts. Give us thirst for you and courage to live in the light you give, until the day we see your face. Amen.
