This short morning prayer is for parents, grandparents, teachers and anyone who wants to ask God to strengthen a child’s faith before the day starts. Pray it while the house is still quiet, in the kitchen over coffee, on the drive to school, or beside a child’s bed before they wake. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words about the children you love.
Short Morning Prayer for Children’s Faith
Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the children you have placed in my care. Before they are awake and before the rush begins, I bring them to you. Help them know, in their own hearts, that you are near. Where they feel unsure, give them a steady sense of your love. Where they feel small, remind them that you see them and that you delight in them.
Go before them today into the classroom, the playground, the team practice and the friendships they will navigate. When they face a question they cannot answer, give them honest courage to ask it and humble trust to wait on you. When they are tempted to pretend, to hide, or to follow the crowd away from what is good, draw them back to the truth. Let your Word take root in them the way seeds take root in good soil, slowly and quietly, so that it grows into a faith that is theirs and not borrowed from anyone else. Teach me, too, to be a person they can see living that faith with patience and joy. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, these children are yours before they are mine. Be with them as they wake, as they dress, and as they walk out the door. Give them a quiet confidence that you are with them in every room they enter today. Help them love you more clearly than they did yesterday, and let them see your goodness in small things as well as large ones. Keep their hearts soft toward you and open to the people you send their way. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a set time that already belongs to your morning, such as while the kettle heats, while packing lunches, or during the first few minutes in the car before the radio comes on. Keep a Bible or a note with these words somewhere you will see it. If you have a child old enough to join you, invite them to pray one sentence of their own, and let their words shape the rest of your prayer for the day.
Your hands can help the prayer too. Rest a hand on a child’s shoulder, trace a small cross on their forehead, or hold their backpack for a moment while you speak. Ask a spouse, friend, or another parent to pray this prayer for your children on the days you are running late or feeling tired, and offer to do the same for them. A prayer shared between several people often carries more weight than one prayed alone.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless these children and keep them today. May his face shine upon them and his peace settle over their hearts. May they walk in the light of his love, know that they are known and cherished, and grow in a faith that is strong, honest and their own. Go in peace.
