This short morning prayer is for asking God to watch over your mother as her day begins. Pray it when you first wake, while the house is quiet, or while you sit with your coffee and think about the people you love. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words where they fit your mother’s life more closely.

Short Morning Prayer for My Mother

Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of another day. I bring my mother before you now, the one who has cared for me for so long. Be near her as she gets out of bed, steady her body if it is stiff or tired, and let her feel your presence before her feet touch the floor. Give her a clear mind for the tasks in front of her, whether that is work, errands, a doctor’s appointment, or simply getting through a long list of small things.

I ask for peace in her heart today. Where she is worried about money, health, family, or the future, quiet those fears and remind her that you are already at work in every situation. Go before her into every conversation, every phone call, and every room she walks into. Let her be patient with the people who test her, kind to the people who need her, and honest about what she needs for herself. Keep her safe on the roads and in the places where she is most likely to be tired or distracted.

Thank you for the love she has shown me, and for the ways you have worked through her life. Fill her with your joy so that she carries some of it into her day. Help me to honor her today, too, in how I speak to her and how I treat her. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, go with my mother this morning. Calm her thoughts, strengthen her body, and give her wisdom for each decision she faces. Watch over her as she leaves home and as she comes back. Let her sense your nearness in the small moments of the day, and let her rest in your care. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray this prayer first thing, before checking messages or turning on the news. Sit somewhere quiet, perhaps near a window or with a cup of something warm in your hands. If you are praying for your mother in person, you might hold her hand or place a hand on her shoulder while you speak the words.

You can also invite others to pray with you. A sibling, a friend, or your mother’s own spouse or partner may want to join you in saying this prayer, or simply hold her in their own morning prayers. Ask God to surround her with the people who love her and who can help carry her needs throughout the day.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your mother and keep her this day. May his face shine on her and give her peace in every task and every encounter. May she walk in his love from the first hour to the last, and may she know that she is never alone.
