This short prayer is for the days when a challenging week leaves you tired, anxious or simply overwhelmed. It is best prayed at the start of the day, in the middle of a hard meeting, or late at night when the list of worries will not quiet down. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Short Prayer During a Challenging Week

Lord, this week has been heavier than I expected. Some of it is the work that keeps piling up, the deadlines I cannot seem to get ahead of, and the conversations I keep replaying in my head. Some of it is the quieter weight: the worry about my family, the health news I am still trying to absorb, and the tiredness that sleep does not seem to fix. I do not know how to carry all of it at once, so I am bringing it to you.

Help me take the next step, not every step. Slow my thoughts when they race ahead to what might go wrong. Show me where I can rest, even for five minutes, and give me the honesty to ask for help when I need it. Where I have been pretending I am fine, let me stop pretending. Where I have been trying to hold everything myself, loosen my grip and let you hold what is mine to release.

Thank you that you see this week clearly, and that nothing about it is hidden from you. I trust you with the outcomes I cannot control. Give me enough strength for today, and enough peace to face tomorrow when it comes. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am overwhelmed right now. Steady my breathing and quiet my mind. Give me the next small thing to do and the grace to leave the rest with you. Remind me that I am not alone in this week, and that you are already at work in the places I cannot see. Thank you for listening, even when I have no words. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when the week feels unsteady, and name the specific trouble you are facing as you read. Ask God to be the refuge you run to first, before you reach for worry or distraction.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Read this slowly and notice the word “come.” Bring your exhaustion to Jesus as you pray, telling him where you feel weary and asking him to give you the rest you cannot manufacture yourself.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage to turn each worry into a specific request. Name one anxiety at a time, and then pray for the peace the verse describes to guard your heart and your thinking.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this when fear feels louder than faith. Repeat God’s promise of his presence and strength, and ask him to help you believe that he is with you in each difficult hour.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

Pray this as an act of giving. Name the burdens you have been carrying alone, and ask God to take them from your shoulders so you can walk with a lighter step.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a fixed moment, such as when you first sit down at your desk or just before you turn off the light at night. Keep a pen and a small notebook nearby, and after you pray, write down one thing you are handing to God that day. Returning to the page later in the week can show you how he has been faithful in small ways you might otherwise miss.

If you feel too exhausted to speak, hold something steady in your hands, like a mug of tea or the edge of a table, and pray the prayer silently or in a whisper. You are also welcome to ask a friend, a spouse or a small group to pray it with you or for you. Sharing the weight of a hard week often makes it feel more bearable.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord be your steady ground when the week shifts beneath you. May he give you rest that reaches past your tiredness and peace that holds your thoughts when they scatter. May you find one good moment in each difficult day, and may you sense that you are carried, not abandoned, all the way through.
