This short prayer is for the moment when one season of life is closing and another is opening, whether that means a new job, a move, a marriage, a baby, retirement, an empty nest, or a diagnosis that has changed how you see tomorrow. Pray it at the beginning of a new season, on the first morning in a new place, or whenever the unknown feels heavy. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own words in where your situation calls for them.
Short Prayer for a New Chapter in Life
Lord, you know the road I am standing on today. Some of it feels exciting and some of it feels frightening, and I do not always know which feeling to trust. You have been faithful to me in every season so far, and I ask you to be faithful in this one too. Give me wisdom for the decisions in front of me, and help me notice the small steps you are asking me to take rather than trying to see the whole path at once.
Father, I bring you the parts of this change that keep me awake: the money, the people I am leaving or meeting, the routines I have to rebuild, and the fear that I will not measure up. Steady my heart when I compare myself to others or to who I used to be. Go before me into this new place, and let me find you already there, working in the people and details I could not have planned. Where I am tempted to hurry, slow me down. Where I am tempted to hide, give me the courage to show up.
I trust that this chapter belongs to you as much as the last one did. Write it with grace, and let my life tell the story of your faithfulness. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am starting something new and I do not feel ready. Go with me into this change. Give me wisdom for the next step, peace for the parts I cannot control, and the courage to trust you one day at a time. Thank you for being with me here. Amen.

Turn to this passage when anxiety about the change begins to crowd out your prayers. Bring each specific worry to God by name, and ask for the peace that guards the heart and mind while you wait for clarity.
Joshua 1:9
Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
(WEB)
God spoke these words to Joshua as he stepped into unfamiliar territory after Moses. Pray them over yourself as you enter a new role or place, asking God to make you strong and steady because he is with you wherever you go.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a quiet time, such as early morning before the day’s demands begin, or the evening before a big transition. Sit somewhere you can settle, and hold a pen or a cup of tea in your hands so your body has something to do while your mind slows down. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the words land. If you want, write down one worry you are bringing to God so you can see the specific things you have handed over.
You can also pray this prayer with someone you trust, such as a spouse, a close friend, or a small group. Ask them to read it aloud while you listen, or take turns praying a sentence each. Hearing someone else speak these words over your new season can be a reminder that you are not carrying the change alone, and it gives them a way to walk alongside you in it.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you into every new room, every new road, and every new relationship. May he give you wisdom for each decision, peace for each unknown, and joy for each ordinary day. May you know, in the beginning and in the middle and in whatever comes next, that you are held by a God who is already present in the chapter ahead.
