This short prayer is for the friend you love and want to see held by God. You can pray it when you wake up thinking about them, before a hard conversation, or during a quiet moment when you have no words of your own. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak what is on your heart in your own voice.

Short Prayer for My Best Friend

Father, thank You for the gift of this friend. You know their heart better than I ever could, and You know every worry they are carrying tonight. I ask that You would be close to them in whatever they are facing, whether it is a decision that feels too heavy, a relationship that hurts, or a quiet fear they have not told anyone. Give them rest when their mind will not stop, and give them people who show up with kindness.

Guard their health and their work, and provide what they need for each day without them having to carry tomorrow too soon. Where they feel lonely, remind them that they are seen and never forgotten by You. Let our friendship be a place of honesty and encouragement, and help me to listen well, speak truth gently, and pray for them when I am not with them. Keep them safe when they travel, steady when they are tempted, and faithful in the things You have given them to do.

Above all, draw them closer to You. Let them know Your love in ways they can feel, so that whatever comes, they are never alone. Thank You for hearing me. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, my friend is on my heart right now. Be near them in what they are facing today, give them peace where there is fear, and strength where they feel worn down. Help them know they are loved, by You and by me. Keep them close to You, and let them feel Your presence in the middle of it all. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

(WEB)

Pray these words as a request for your friend’s safety in everything they go out to do and every place they come home from. Ask God to keep watch over their going out and their coming in, even when you cannot see what is ahead.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Use this passage to ask God to replace your friend’s anxious thoughts with a peace that does not depend on circumstances. Name the specific worries you know they carry and bring each one before God with them in mind.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(WEB)

Pray this for your friend when they feel distant from God or from others. Ask that they would be sure, deep down, that nothing in their life can separate them from the love of Christ.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up.

(WEB)

Ask God to make your friendship a source of real help, so that when one of you falls, the other is there to lift them up. Pray for the strength to be that person for them, and for them to be that person for you.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this verse over your friend when fear is rising. Ask God to remind them that He is with them, that they do not need to be dismayed, and that He will hold them steady through whatever comes.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a regular time, such as the first few minutes of your morning or the quiet moment before you fall asleep, and pray for your friend then. A consistent rhythm helps you remember them when life gets busy. You might also keep the prayer written on a note in your phone or in a journal, so you can return to it whenever a new worry about them comes to mind.

Consider praying it with your hands busy, such as while you drive, fold laundry, or walk. If you know a shared friend or family member who also loves them, ask that person to pray with you, and tell your friend you are doing so. Sometimes the most meaningful help is simply letting them know they are being prayed for.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your friend and keep them safe in every season of life. May His face shine on them with grace, and may they rest in the knowledge that they are deeply loved. May they know the presence of Christ close beside them, today and always.
