This short prayer for the start of the week is meant for the first moments of a new work week, often on a Monday morning or the night before, when the calendar feels crowded and the to-do list is already long. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words. Either way, it gives you a simple way to hand the coming days to God before the noise begins.

Short Prayer for the Start of the Week

Lord, thank You for this new week. I didn’t choose the timing of it, but I can choose to begin it with You. Before my phone lights up with messages and my inbox fills with requests, I want to slow down and remember that You are already here. You knew what Monday would bring before I did, and You have not left me to face it alone.

I bring You the work waiting on my desk, the meetings I dread, and the deadlines that feel too close. I bring You the people I will see and the ones I will be tempted to avoid. Give me patience when I am interrupted, clarity when my thoughts scatter, and honesty when I am tempted to pretend I have it all together. Help me do my work with diligence and kindness, and keep me from measuring my worth by how much I finish.

Be with my family and the people I carry in my heart this week. Guard our health, steady our moods, and provide what we need for each day as it comes. When I feel stretched thin, remind me that You give strength to the weary and that my rest is in You, not in my own effort. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this week is in Your hands. Go before me into every meeting, every task, and every hard conversation. Give me what I need for today and help me trust You with what I cannot see yet. Keep my heart steady, and let my work and my words show Your care for the people around me. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 90:12

So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as a request for wisdom in how you spend the days ahead. Ask God to show you what matters most this week so that your time is not swallowed by what merely feels urgent.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly and thank God that His kindness did not run out over the past week and will not run out over the one ahead. Let it steady you when you feel you are starting from empty.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Use this verse to release tomorrow’s worries into God’s care. Pray it when your mind races ahead to Thursday or Friday, asking Him to help you stay present with the task in front of you.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this verse for renewed strength as the week wears on. Ask God to lift you up when your energy runs low and to help you keep going without losing heart.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

Let this verse set the tone for your morning. Thank God for the day He has made and ask Him to help you receive each part of it, including the ordinary parts, as a gift from Him.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer early, before you check your phone or open your email. Sit somewhere quiet with a cup of coffee or tea, and let your hands rest open in your lap or hold the cup gently. Speaking aloud, even softly, can help you slow down and mean each line. If mornings are not possible for you, pray it during a short drive, on a lunch break, or in the evening before bed as you plan the week.

You might also invite someone else into this prayer. Share it with a spouse, a roommate, or a friend, and ask them to pray it with you by phone or text on Monday morning. Or write the prayer on a note card and place it where you will see it at your desk, so that the start of each week becomes a standing reminder that you do not begin it alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into this week and walk beside you in every task. May He give you wisdom for the decisions, patience for the delays, and peace that does not depend on how the days turn out. May you rest in the knowledge that you are held, known, and loved by the One who began this week and will carry you through it.
