This short prayer for trusting God is for the moments when you know faith is the right answer but your heart is not yet following along. Pray it when worry wakes you early, when a decision is pressing on you, or when you need to hand something over and cannot quite let go. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words beneath it.
Short Prayer for Trusting God
Father, you already know what is keeping me up tonight. I have been turning over the unknowns again and again: the test results, the money that may not stretch, the conversation I dread, the future I cannot see from here. My mind keeps trying to solve what only you can hold. Forgive me for how often I reach for control before I reach for you.
Help me remember who you are. You have been faithful in every season I can look back on, even the ones I survived with barely a breath to spare. Steady my thoughts so they stop running ahead of me. Where I am tempted to despair, remind me that you are present now, not only at the end of the story. Let me rest in your character rather than in my own plans.
So I place these worries in your hands, one by one, and I choose to trust you with what I cannot fix. Give me the courage to take the next faithful step and leave the rest to you. I believe you are good, and I ask you to help my unbelief. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I am anxious right now and I do not have words for all of it. You see what I am carrying. I choose to trust you with this moment and the one after it. Quiet my heart, and help me take the next small step in faith. Thank you that I am not facing this alone. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
(WEB)
Pray these words slowly, pausing after the first phrase to name the thing you most want to understand. Then ask God to straighten the path you cannot see yet. The verse does not ask you to pretend you know everything, only to lean your full weight on him.
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”
(WEB)
When your thoughts are racing, read this verse as an invitation to stop. Breathe out, and let the word “still” become a prayer that God would slow your mind. Trust grows easier when you stop narrating every possible outcome.
Isaiah 26:3
You will keep whoever’s mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.
(WEB)
Use this verse to ask for peace that does not depend on your circumstances changing. Name the thoughts that keep returning, and bring each one back to the God who is faithful. Peace in this verse is tied directly to a mind fixed on him.
Matthew 6:34
Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.
(WEB)
Pray this verse when tomorrow feels crowded with problems. Ask God to help you handle only today’s portion of grace, trusting that he will meet you when the next day arrives. It is a gentle corrective to the habit of borrowing trouble.
Psalm 56:3-4
3 When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. 4 In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?
(WEB)
This psalm gives you honest words for fear and a clear answer to it in the same breath. Pray the first half as a confession, then the second as a declaration of where you are placing your trust. Speak both halves aloud if you can.
How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a time when the day is still quiet, such as early morning before the phone is in your hand, or late at night before sleep. Sit somewhere you can be still, and keep a pen or a cup of tea in your hands so your body has something to do while your heart settles. If your mind wanders, return to one line of the prayer and stay there.
You may also pray this with someone else, a spouse, a close friend, or a small group. Ask them to read the prayer while you listen, or take turns speaking the lines. Trusting God is often easier when you hear someone else say it out loud alongside you.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who has carried you this far keep your heart steady in the days ahead. May you find that his faithfulness goes before you, behind you, and beside you. Where your fear has been loud, may his peace be louder still, and may you rest in the certainty that he will not let you go.
