This page offers short prayers for caregivers, people who give daily care to a parent, spouse, child, or friend who cannot fully care for themselves. Pray them at the start or end of a shift, in the car between appointments, or at the bedside when the house is finally quiet. Read them aloud exactly as written, or use them as a starting point and speak in your own words.
Short Prayers for Caregivers
Lord, you see the early mornings I have already lived through and the long nights that are still ahead. You know the medication schedule, the bills, the appointments, and the small daily tasks that no one else notices. I bring you my tiredness today. Where my patience is thin, fill the gap with your patience. Where my heart is heavy with grief over what my loved one has lost, hold me so that I do not carry it alone.
Give me wisdom for the decisions I did not expect to make, and the humility to ask for help when I need it. Remind me that I am not required to be everything to everyone, and that you are present in the hard tasks as much as in the easy ones. When I feel guilty for wishing for rest, or ashamed of the frustration that rises in me, meet me with mercy and not with judgment. Let my care be a true offering to you. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, I am worn out and I need you right now. Steady my hands and calm my voice. Help me meet the next need in front of me, and give me strength for the hour after that. Remind me that you are near and that you love the person I am caring for as much as I do. Thank you for holding both of us. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a regular moment, such as when the kettle boils, before you get out of the car after a visit, or as you turn off the bedside lamp. Keep a copy of the prayer on your phone or on a card in your bag so you can find it quickly when you are tired. Some caregivers find it helpful to rest one hand on the arm of their loved one, or to hold a warm cup, while they pray, so that the words are tied to something physical.
You can also invite a friend, sibling, or pastor to pray it with you by phone or during a visit. Ask them to pray the shorter version over you when you cannot find the words yourself. Sharing the load in prayer is one practical way to remember that you are part of a larger body of people who are holding you up.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord who sees every hidden act of care bless the one who gives it. May he renew your strength each morning and steady your heart each evening. May the person you love feel your faithfulness, and may you feel the nearness of God in the quiet moments between tasks.
