This simple prayer is for the moments when life feels unfair: when effort goes unrewarded, when someone else seems to get the breaks you deserve, or when a loss arrives that makes no sense. You can pray it in the morning before the day begins, in the car after a hard conversation, or late at night when sleep won’t come. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Simple Prayer When Life Feels Unfair

Lord, I am tired of pretending this doesn’t hurt. I did what was asked of me, and it still isn’t enough, or someone else is being rewarded for things I never got credit for. Some days it feels like the rules only work for other people. I don’t have to understand every part of this, but I need you to see it, because I can’t carry it on my own.

You know the names and faces tangled up in this, and you know what I hoped would happen. Help me set down the anger that keeps circling back, and give me honesty about what is mine to change and what is not. Keep me from becoming bitter, and keep me from quietly deciding that I am worth less than I am. Remind me that you see what is done in secret and that you have not forgotten me.

Give me steady hands for the next task and a steady heart for the next conversation. Let me trust that you are a just God even when justice looks slow from where I stand. I give you this unfairness today, and I ask you to be near me in it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this feels unfair, and I’m frustrated and hurt. I bring it to you instead of holding it in. Show me what I can do today, and give me peace about what I cannot control. Remind me that you are just and that you are with me right now. Help me breathe and keep going. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 37:5-6

5 Commit your way to the LORD. Trust also in him, and he will do this: 6 he will make your righteousness go out as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel the urge to take matters into your own hands. Ask God to make your path clear and to vindicate what is right in his own time, trusting him with the outcome instead of rehearsing the injustice.

Romans 12:19

Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.”

(WEB)

Pray this when the desire for revenge or a settled score rises up in you. Ask God to take the weight of repayment off your shoulders so you can release the wrong into his hands.

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

Pray this when the unfairness has left you crushed in spirit. Thank God that he draws near to people who are hurting, and ask him to be close to you in the specific ache you are carrying today.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this when you feel worn out by the weight of something unjust. Ask God to renew your strength so that you can keep going one step at a time, without needing to see every answer first.

Matthew 5:44

But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you…

(WEB)

Pray this when the person who wronged you is hard to think about kindly. Ask God to soften your heart toward them, not to excuse what happened, but to keep your own heart from being poisoned by it.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet moment when you won’t be interrupted, such as before the household wakes up or during a short break at work. Sit with your hands open on your lap or hold a cup of something warm, so your body has something to do while your heart catches up. Read the prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to let the words land, and if a particular line hits hard, stay there longer.

You can also pray this with someone you trust. Ask a friend, spouse, or pastor to pray it with you or over you, and let them speak the blessing at the end. Many people find that hearing another voice say these words makes it easier to believe that the unfairness is not the final word about their worth.

A Blessing to Close

May the God who sees every hidden tear be near to you today. May he steady your heart when the situation feels unjust, and may he guard you from bitterness and despair. May he be your defender and your comfort, and may you rest in the assurance that you are known, loved, and not forgotten.
