This list gives you Bible verses for finding courage when fear, pressure or uncertainty is pressing on you. It is for anyone who needs steadiness to act, speak or simply keep going. The verses below share one thread: courage in Scripture rarely means the absence of fear. It means trusting that God is present and faithful when you feel least able.

Verses for the Morning Before a Hard Conversation

Some courage is needed before the day has even begun, when the difficult talk or decision is still waiting on the calendar. These verses speak to that early-morning dread and point to the God who goes ahead of you.

Joshua 1:9

Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

(WEB)

God gave this charge to Joshua just before he led Israel into unfamiliar land. Before your own hard conversation, say the reason for your courage out loud: the Lord is with you wherever you go, not just in the room you hoped to avoid.

Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?

(WEB)

David names three things he fears not, because his confidence rests on who God is. Write “The Lord is my light” on a sticky note and place it where you will see it before you leave home.

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or scared of them; for the LORD your God himself is who goes with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you.”

(WEB)

Moses speaks these words to a people about to face enemies they have not yet met. Pray through the specific person or task ahead of you and ask God to make his presence as real to you as the morning air.

Verses for Facing Fear in Ordinary Moments

Courage is not reserved for dramatic moments. It shows up in waiting rooms, phone calls and sleepless nights. These passages meet fear in the middle of an unremarkable day.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

God speaks directly to a fearful people with personal, steady words: I am with you, I will strengthen you, I will hold you. When fear rises, slow your breathing and repeat the promise in the first person, “God is with me.”

2 Timothy 1:7

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

(WEB)

Paul writes to a young leader who was tempted to shrink back from his calling. Notice the three gifts named here, and ask God which of them you most need today, power, love or self-control.

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

(WEB)

This psalm moves from fear to trust within a single verse, which is encouraging when your feelings have not caught up with your faith. Name the fear plainly to God, then choose one act of trust that you can take this afternoon.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Paul links worry to prayer and gives peace as the result. Turn one anxious thought into a short request to God, and notice how many of your worries shrink when they are spoken rather than rehearsed.

Verses for Standing Firm When the Outcome Is Unclear

Sometimes you have done what you can and must simply wait. These verses encourage courage that rests in God’s faithfulness rather than in certainty about how things will turn out.

Romans 8:31

What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

(WEB)

Paul asks a question that reframes every opposing force you face. Ask yourself honestly who or what feels most like opposition right now, then remind yourself that God’s purposes are bigger than that pressure.

Psalm 31:24

Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the LORD.

(WEB)

David urges his readers to be strong and let their hearts take courage because the Lord is the one who waits with them. Pick one area where you are waiting for an answer and commit it to God in writing today.

Joshua 1:7

Only be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

(WEB)

God pairs courage with careful obedience to his word. When you feel stuck, ask what the next faithful step is, and take that step rather than trying to see the whole road at once.

Hebrews 13:6

So that with good courage we say, “The Lord is my helper. I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

(WEB)

The writer quotes the psalms to show that fear of people loses its grip when we remember who is our helper. Think of one person whose opinion weighs heavily on you and name God as your helper in that relationship.

Psalm 118:6

The LORD is on my side. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

(WEB)

This verse asks a simple question with a settled answer. Let it become a line you repeat when criticism or doubt arrives, reminding yourself that a human voice is not the final word.

Verses for Courage to Keep Going

Courage is also needed for the long middle of a task, when the first energy has faded. These passages encourage perseverance grounded in the strength God supplies.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Isaiah describes renewed strength for those who wait on the Lord, not endless energy of our own. When you are running low, rest deliberately and receive strength as a gift rather than a demand.

Galatians 6:9

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.

(WEB)

Paul encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good, because a harvest is coming. Write down one small act of faithfulness you can repeat this week, and mark each completion as a reason to keep going.

1 Corinthians 16:13

Watch! Stand firm in the faith! Be courageous! Be strong!

(WEB)

Paul gives four short commands that together describe a courageous, grounded life. Choose the one that feels most needed today and let it guide your next decision.

Psalm 3:3

But you, the LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.

(WEB)

David writes this psalm while surrounded by enemies, calling God his shield and the one who lifts his head. When your head feels bowed, lift your eyes to God in a brief prayer before the next task.

Romans 5:3-5

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: 5 and hope doesn’t disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

(WEB)

Paul traces a path from suffering through perseverance to hope, which is rooted in God’s love. Reflect on one difficulty you have already come through and note what it taught you about God’s faithfulness.

How to Use These Verses

Write two or three of these verses on a card and keep it in your wallet, on your phone’s lock screen, or beside your bathroom mirror. Choose the verse that matches the situation in front of you instead of reading the whole list at once. Repetition helps: a verse read every morning for a week will often come to mind unbidden when the moment arrives.

Pray the verses back to God rather than only reading them. Put your name or the name of the person you are facing into the promise, as in “The Lord is with me in this meeting.” Speak it aloud in the car or at your desk, and then ask God to give you the courage that the verse describes.

A Short Prayer for finding courage

Lord, you know the fears I am carrying today, including the ones I have not named yet. Thank you that you are with me, and that you do not ask me to be brave on my own strength. Give me steady courage for the next hard step, and help me trust your faithfulness when the outcome is still unknown. Let me remember your promises when fear speaks loudly, and let my courage come from your presence rather than my own confidence. Amen.
