This prayer is for the times when you want to bring your mother before God but do not know where to begin. You can pray it in the morning before the day gets loud, at her bedside, during a phone call, or whenever worry about her rises up in you. Read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words where your heart needs to say more.

Prayer for My Mother

Lord, I come to You on behalf of my mother. You know her name, her history, the years she has carried and the burdens she has never fully put down. Thank You that she is not hidden from You for even a moment. Be near to her body, and give her strength for each day she is given. Where she is tired, restore her. Where she is in pain, comfort her and bring healing as You see fit. Where she is afraid, remind her that You are closer than the fear.

Father, I also ask for her heart. Guard her mind from anxiety about money, health, family, and the future. Let her sleep well tonight. Let her feel loved by those around her, and let her know that she is loved by You more deeply than she can imagine. Help me to honor her, to be patient with her, and to speak kindly even when things are hard between us. Teach me to love her the way You love her.

Thank You for the gift of her life and for every sacrifice she has made, often without thanks. Keep her close to You, and let her walk in peace all her days. Whatever she is facing, I place it in Your hands, trusting that You hear every word and that You are faithful. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, bless my mother today. Hold her in Your care, give her peace where she is anxious, strength where she is weary, and comfort where she is hurting. Let her know she is not alone. Help me to love her well and to trust You with what I cannot change. Amen.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from God’s love, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Let this passage remind you to pray that your mother would be sure of God’s love. Ask that nothing she faces would convince her that she has been left alone.

How to Pray This Prayer

Many people find it helpful to pray for their mother at a steady time each day, such as first thing in the morning or as they drive to work. Keep a photo of her nearby or sit with her handwriting, a favorite mug, or some other reminder of her in front of you. Let your hands stay busy with something simple, like folding laundry or holding a cup of tea, so that your attention can rest on her name.

You do not have to pray this alone. Invite a sibling, a friend, or your church family to pray with you, and let them know specifically what your mother needs. Ask them to join you in saying the prayer or in praying the Scripture over her. Sharing the burden often makes it lighter, and it reminds you that God works through a community of people who love her.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your mother and keep her. May He make His face shine upon her and be gracious to her. May she rest in His peace today, and may you walk beside her in love, knowing that the One who holds you both is faithful to the end.
