These morning prayers for faith are written for the first minutes of your day, before the messages, the meetings and the to-do list take over. You can pray them aloud exactly as written, or use them as a starting point and speak in your own words. Pray them while your coffee brews, on the drive to work, or sitting on the edge of your bed.

Morning Prayers for Faith

Lord, I wake up this morning and my first thought is the list: the conversation with my manager, the bills I need to check, the call I have been putting off. Before any of that, I want to give you the first part of this day. Help me remember that you were awake before I was, and that you already know what I will face at noon and at five o’clock. Steady my heart when my mind starts running ahead of me.

Give me faith for the people I will see today. Help me be patient with the coworker who frustrates me, honest with the friend who needs the truth, and gentle with the child who will not get dressed. When I feel tired or unsure of myself, remind me that my worth does not depend on how well this day goes. Let me trust that you are working in places I cannot see yet, and that nothing I do in your name is wasted.

Father, I hand you the tasks, the worries and the people on my heart. Take what I cannot carry and carry it with me. Walk with me into this day, and let my faith be quiet and steady, even when the day is loud. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, I start this day trusting you. Go before me into every meeting, every conversation and every hard choice. Give me faith to take the next step, not the whole road. Quiet my fear and let me rest in your care for me today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this verse as you plan the day, asking God to be the one you lean on when your own understanding runs out. Name the decisions you face and ask him to make your paths straight.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Read this in the morning and thank God that his faithfulness is new each day. Let it remind you that yesterday’s failures do not cancel his mercy for today.

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

Use this verse when your mind is racing before work. Pause, breathe, and ask God to still the noise so you can recognize his presence in the middle of your schedule.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this for the tiredness you already feel before the day has begun. Ask the Lord to renew your strength, especially for the tasks that drain you most.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Bring this verse to the worries you are tempted to carry all day. Ask God to help you deal with today’s trouble today, and to leave tomorrow in his hands.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying the main prayer before you check your phone or open your email. Sit somewhere quiet, even for three minutes, and keep your hands open in your lap or around a warm mug. If your mind wanders, return to one line, such as the request for faith for the people you will meet.

If you live with a spouse, roommate or children, pray it together at the breakfast table or read the shorter version aloud as everyone leaves the house. Your faith can grow when someone else prays the same words beside you.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into this day and walk beside you in every task. May he steady your heart when it is anxious and give you faith for each person you meet. May you rest in his love as you go out into the morning.
