This morning prayer is for the first day of a new month, when a fresh calendar page can feel like both a gift and a weight. Pray it early, before the day’s messages and obligations crowd in, while your coffee is still hot or your house is still quiet. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Morning Prayers for a New Month

Lord, thank you for this new month and for the simple mercy of another day to begin again. I do not know everything that will happen in the next thirty days, but you do. Help me to hold my plans loosely and my hope tightly. Show me where I have been carrying yesterday’s worries into today, and give me the grace to set them down at your feet.

Be with me in the work ahead of me this month, whether it is a job I must finish, a bill I must pay, or a conversation I have been dreading. Give me wisdom for the decisions I face and patience for the people who will test it. Keep me honest in small things so that I can be trusted with larger ones. When I am tempted to measure my worth by how much I accomplish, remind me that I am already yours.

Watch over the people I love this month, especially those who are struggling with health, grief, money, or loneliness. Go before them and be near them when I cannot be. Make me a kind presence in their lives and a listening ear when they need one. Let this month be marked not only by what I get done, but by how I love. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, this is a new month and I am starting it with you. Guide my steps, steady my heart, and give me the courage to do what is in front of me today. Help me notice the people you put in my path and respond to them with patience and care. Let my first thoughts this morning belong to you. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Pray these words as you look at the new month ahead, thanking God that his compassion has not run out and that each morning brings fresh evidence of his faithfulness.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it!

(WEB)

Use this verse to greet the first day of the month on purpose, choosing gladness as a response to God’s gift of time rather than waiting for the mood to arrive.

Proverbs 3:5-6

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

(WEB)

Pray this as you plan the month’s commitments, asking God to guide the decisions you cannot yet see and to make your paths straight where they feel tangled.

Psalm 90:12

So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

(WEB)

Let this verse shape your prayer for wise use of time, asking God to help you spend these thirty days on what matters most to him and to the people you love.

Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

(WEB)

Pray this when the month feels ordinary or discouraging, trusting that God is able to open a new way in places where you can see only dry ground.

How to Pray This Prayer

Pray the main prayer before you check your phone or open your email, sitting somewhere you can be still for five or ten minutes. A kitchen chair, a porch step, or the edge of your bed works well. If your hands need something to do, hold a pen and write the month’s most important commitments on a page, then pray over that list line by line as you read it back.

You might also pray this prayer with a spouse, a friend, or a small group at the start of the month. Take turns reading a paragraph each, and then name one concern aloud for the person beside you. Many people find that praying for one another over the first week of the month makes the rest of the month feel less lonely and more held.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into this new month and walk with you through every ordinary day. May he give you wisdom for each decision, rest for each weary evening, and joy for each small mercy. May you know, in the middle of it all, that you are loved.
