This morning prayer is for the mother in your life, whether she is near or far, well or struggling, easy to talk to or hard to reach. It is best prayed early, before the phone starts ringing and the day’s demands take over, and it can be read aloud exactly as written or used as a starting point for your own words.

Morning Prayer for My Mother

Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of my mother. Thank you for the hands that held me, the voice that taught me, and the years she has poured into my life often without being thanked. Before I think about anything else today, I bring her to you. Be near her as she wakes, and let her feel your presence before the worries of the day settle on her shoulders.

Father, I ask you to guard her body and her health. Steady her steps, ease any pain she carries, and give her rest when her body needs it. Where she is anxious about money, family, or the future, give her a peace that does not depend on her circumstances. Remind her that she does not carry her burdens alone, and help her set down what is not hers to hold.

Today I also ask for grace between us. Help me to speak to her with patience and honesty, to listen more than I argue, and to honor her even when we see things differently. Where there is hurt or distance, soften both our hearts and open the way for healing in your time. Let my words and my actions show her how much she is loved. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, thank you for my mother. Wrap her in your care this morning, guard her health and her heart, and give her peace that holds through whatever the day brings. Help me to love her well today, with patience and kindness. Let her know she is seen and cherished, both by me and by you. Amen.

Isaiah 40:29-31

29 He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might. 30 Even the youths faint and get weary, and the young men utterly fall; 31 But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

Rejoicing in hope; enduring in troubles; continuing steadfastly in prayer…

(WEB)

Pray this for her steadiness of hope. Ask that she would rejoice in what God is doing, stay faithful in prayer, and hold on patiently when the day is difficult.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a quiet moment before your day gets busy, perhaps while the coffee is brewing or before you pick up your phone. Sit somewhere comfortable and read the prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to let the words sink in. If you can, hold something in your hands, such as a cup of tea or a photograph of your mother, to keep your attention on her as you pray.

Consider inviting others to join you. A sibling, a spouse, or a close friend who loves your mother can pray the same words in their own mornings, so that she is lifted up by several people at once. You might also send her a short text afterward saying that you prayed for her today, which can encourage her more than you know.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord bless your mother this day and keep her in his care. May he make his face shine upon her and give her peace in every hour. May she know, without any doubt, that she is deeply loved by God and by those who call her their own.
