This daily prayer for gratitude is meant for the start or end of your day, when you want to notice the good things God has given and turn your attention toward thankfulness. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words. It works well for mornings rushed by lists, evenings when the day feels thin, or seasons when gratitude does not come easily.

Daily Prayer for Gratitude

Lord, thank You for another day. Thank You for the breath in my lungs, the warmth of my home, and the ordinary gifts I so often walk past without a second thought. Forgive me for the times I focus only on what is missing, the bills, the unanswered messages, the people who have let me down. Open my eyes to what is already here.

Help me remember the people You have placed around me, even the ones who frustrate me or whom I have taken for granted. Thank You for the work of my hands, for the food on the table, and for the small mercies that met me yesterday when I was too tired to notice. Teach me to receive each one as coming from Your generous hand.

Shape my heart today so that thankfulness becomes a habit and not just a feeling. When my mood shifts or my circumstances tighten, remind me of Your faithfulness and let gratitude rise up again. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, thank You for this moment. Thank You for what I can see and for what I know You are providing that I cannot yet see. Help me stop rushing long enough to name three good things before I move on. Let my heart settle into thankfulness, and let that thankfulness shape how I speak and act for the rest of this hour. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 107:1

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.

(WEB)

Read this slowly at the start of your prayer. It gives you a reason to begin with thanks rather than requests, reminding you that God’s goodness is the ground on which gratitude stands.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you.

(WEB)

Paul ties thankfulness to God’s will for believers. Pray this verse by asking God to make gratitude a settled posture, even in the hours when the circumstances around you are hard.

Psalm 103:2

Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits…

(WEB)

David calls himself to remember God’s benefits. Use this verse to pause and list specific blessings from the past week, speaking each one back to God as an act of remembering.

Colossians 3:15

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

(WEB)

Paul connects peace with thankfulness. Pray this verse when you feel restless, asking God to let His peace guide your heart toward gratitude instead of worry.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Written in grief, these lines still name God’s mercies as new every morning. Pray them on a hard day, thanking God for compassion that renews itself even when you feel worn down.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer first thing after you wake, before you pick up your phone. Sit in a chair by a window if you can, with a cup of something warm in your hands. Let the first minutes of your day belong to God rather than to the inbox or the news.

If you are praying with a spouse, a child, or a friend, read it aloud together and take turns adding one thing you are grateful for after each paragraph. Anyone in your household who is learning to pray can join in simply by naming one gift. Gratitude often grows fastest when it is shared out loud.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who gives every good gift open your eyes to His goodness today. May you walk through your hours noticing grace in ordinary places, and may a quiet thankfulness steady your heart wherever you go.
