Morning prayers and blessings are short, heartfelt words you speak to God as the day opens, asking for his presence in the hours ahead and for his favor on the people and tasks you will meet. The prayer below is written for everyday faith, the kind that has to hold up over coffee, commutes, emails, and the ordinary friction of a normal day. Pray it aloud as written, or let it be a starting point and fill in the names and worries that are specifically yours.
Morning Prayers and Blessings
Lord, thank you for this new morning. Before the day gets loud, I want to hand it to you. You know what is waiting for me: the emails I have not answered, the conversation with my boss I have been dreading, the kids who need to be fed and dressed and reminded about their shoes, and the friend who is still carrying something heavy. Be in every one of those moments before I get to them.
Give me a steady heart when the schedule tightens and patience when people are slow or short with me. Help me do my work honestly and well, not for applause but because I am serving you in it. Where I will likely fall back into irritation or worry, remind me of your nearness and let your peace come first. Keep my words kind and my hands useful today.
Bless the people I will see, the ones I already love and the strangers I will pass without a second thought. Let me be a small source of good in their day. And if I need help, let me ask for it quickly instead of struggling alone. I trust you with this day, one hour at a time. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Good morning, Lord. I give you this day before it gets away from me. Go before me into my work, my home, and every conversation. Keep me patient, honest, and kind. Help me see you in the people around me, and give me peace when the hours get hard. Thank you for another morning. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Try praying this before you check your phone or open your inbox, while you are still sitting on the edge of the bed or standing at the kitchen counter with your first cup of coffee. Keeping a pen nearby can help: jot down two or three specific tasks or people you are praying for, and then read the prayer again with those names in mind. Some people find it helpful to hold a warm mug or touch a Bible on the table as they pray, giving their hands something to do while their heart settles.
This prayer also works well shared. A spouse, a roommate, or a child old enough to join in can take turns reading a line, or the whole family can pray it together before breakfast. If you are a parent, you might add a sentence naming each child and their day. Praying it with someone else can keep you accountable to start the day with God and give you a companion for the hours ahead.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you and walk beside you through this day. May he give you wisdom for each decision, strength for each task, and grace for each person you meet. May his peace settle over your heart and stay with you until evening.
