This lesson teaches children that God protects His people even when the world feels scary, and a child can repeat it as “God takes care of His people.” It works for ages 5 to 11 and takes about 20 to 30 minutes, with a short story, a few verses, and a simple activity.

Big Idea

God is stronger than any enemy, and He takes care of the people who belong to Him, even when they are scared.

Memory Verse

Revelation 12:11

They overcame him because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn’t love their life, even to death.

Teach children to hold up both fists like shields, then slowly lift them above their heads as they say the verse together. Repeat it three times, getting a little quieter each time until everyone is whispering.

The Story: Revelation 12 for Kids

John saw something amazing in the sky. A woman was there, shining brightly with the sun around her and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was going to have a baby, and she was crying out because it was hard work.

Then John saw a second sign in the sky. A huge red dragon appeared, with seven heads and ten horns. The dragon wanted to hurt the baby as soon as it was born. The dragon was very, very big, but he was not as strong as God.

The baby boy was born, and God took him up to His throne in heaven. The woman ran away into the wilderness, where God had prepared a safe place for her. God took care of her there for a long time, so she was not alone.

Then a war started in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. The dragon lost, and he was thrown down to the earth. A loud voice in heaven shouted, “Now the salvation and power of our God have come!” The angels were glad because the one who had been accusing God’s people was gone.

The dragon was angry because he had lost. He went after the woman and her other children, the people who keep God’s commands and follow Jesus. But God helped her. Wings like an eagle carried her to safety, and the earth itself opened up and swallowed the river the dragon sent after her.

Read It Together

Revelation 12:1

A great sign was seen in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

(WEB)

Point out that John saw this in a vision, a picture God showed him. Ask children what they think the sun, moon, and stars in the picture might stand for. Let them guess before you share any ideas.

Revelation 12:6

The woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that there they may nourish her one thousand two hundred sixty days.

(WEB)

Show children that God prepared a place for the woman to be cared for. Remind them that God always has a safe place ready for His people, even when they feel lost or afraid.

Revelation 12:14

Two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, so that she might be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

(WEB)

Point out how God helped the woman escape with wings like an eagle. Ask children to think about times when they felt helped or rescued and who helped them.

Talk About It

  • What did the dragon want to do to the baby, and how did God stop him?
  • Where did God keep the woman safe when she was in the wilderness?
  • What is one thing that makes you feel brave when you are scared?
  • Why do you think the angels shouted with joy when the dragon was thrown down?
  • How can you remember that God is always taking care of you?

Activity Ideas

Sun, Moon, and Stars Picture

You will need paper, crayons or markers, and a few cotton balls or yellow tissue paper. Have children draw a woman in the middle of the page, then add a yellow sun behind her, a white moon at her feet, and a crown of twelve small stars on her head. Let them glue on tissue paper for shine if they like. As they draw, talk about how God’s people are shining with His light.

Dragon and Shield Game

Clear a space in your room or classroom. Choose one child to be the dragon who tries to tag others, while the rest are God’s people. When a child is tagged, they must be safe behind a “shield” made of a folded blanket or a chair, and they call out Revelation 12:11 before rejoining the game. Keep the game lively but short, and remind children that God protects them.

Take-Home Promise Card

Give each child an index card or a folded sheet of paper and a pencil. Ask them to write or draw one way God takes care of them, such as a safe home or a family who loves them. Encourage them to keep the card in a pocket, backpack, or by their bed and read it aloud each night as a reminder that God keeps His promises.

Teacher Notes

For adults, Revelation 12 is a vision that pictures the conflict between God and the devil, and God’s faithful protection of His people through all of it. The chapter reads as encouragement to believers who face opposition, reminding them that the outcome is already secure in Christ. The imagery is symbolic, so it helps to point toward the main truth of God’s victory rather than trying to decode every detail.

When teaching children, avoid making the dragon too frightening or suggesting that children must be perfect to be protected. Keep the focus on God’s power and care, and let children feel safe while they learn about the struggle between good and evil.

A Prayer to Close
