These morning prayers for single mothers are written for the first minutes of the day, before the alarms, lunch boxes and phone messages take over. You can read the main prayer aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words in the same spirit. Pray it at the kitchen table, in the car before you walk into work, or while the house is still quiet.

Morning Prayers for Single Mothers

Lord, I wake up and the day is already waiting for me. There are children who need breakfast, shoes that cannot be found, and a schedule that only I am holding together. Some mornings I feel the weight of doing every job in this house alone, from paying bills to answering the hard questions at bedtime. Before I reach for my phone or my coffee, I want to bring all of it to You. Be near me when the house is loud and when it is silent.

Give me patience for the small failures of the morning, the spilled milk and the forgotten permission slip. Help me hear my children clearly and not only in a rush. Where I am tired, give me strength that is not my own. Where I am afraid of money running short, or of making a decision alone, remind me that I am not carrying this by myself. Guide my steps at work, with the people I will meet and the tasks that feel impossible. Let me treat the people around me with the kindness I hope to receive. Thank You for the children You have given me and for the grace You give me each morning. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am starting this day in Your hands. Hold my children close and go before me into every hour. Give me enough strength for what is in front of me, and enough grace for what I cannot manage. Help me be the mother they need today, and let me rest in knowing You see what I carry. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

Pray this verse when you feel that the day is bigger than you. Ask God to be the refuge you run to first, before you run through the list of what needs doing.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Read this slowly when your energy is gone before the day has started. Ask the Lord to renew your strength so that you can keep going one step at a time.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

Use this verse to set down tomorrow’s worries before they settle on today. Pray for the grace to live only the day in front of you.

Psalm 68:5

A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

(WEB)

Pray this when the absence of another parent in your home feels most sharp. Thank God that He is a defender of the fatherless and a protector of those who are alone in their homes.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Bring your worries about money, school, or work into prayer as soon as they rise. Ask God to guard your heart and mind with a peace that does not depend on your circumstances.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer in the first five minutes after you wake, before you check messages or look at the news. If you can, sit in a chair you do not usually use for anything else, with a cup of tea or water in your hands so your body has something gentle to do while your mind settles. If the house is noisy, pray in the bathroom or in the car before you go inside.

You do not have to pray it alone. A friend, a sister in your church, or a parent who understands your situation can pray it with you by phone or over a short coffee. Some single mothers write the prayer on a card and keep it on the fridge, so it is there when the morning gets away from them. Read it again on the days you forget.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you into this day and walk beside you in every task. May He give your children a mother who is loved and held, and may He give you rest for your heart. Go in peace, knowing that you are seen and that you are not alone.
