This morning prayer is for asking God to keep your children safe as they leave your home and move through the hours ahead. Pray it at breakfast, at the door, or in the car before school, and read it aloud as written or use it as a starting point for words of your own. It is meant for the ordinary moments when a parent’s fear is loudest.

Morning Prayers for Children’s Safety

Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the children you have placed in our home. Before they walk out the door, I give them into your keeping. You know the bus route, the crosswalk at the corner, the playground at recess, and the drive home through traffic. Go before them into every one of those places, and be the one who watches over their steps when I cannot.

Protect their bodies from accidents and illness, and their hearts from fear and from cruelty that might come from other children or adults. Give them good friends and wise teachers, and give them the courage to tell me or another trusted adult if something feels wrong. Surround them with your peace, and let them feel your nearness even when I am not in the room.

I also ask for myself. Quiet my worry and remind me that you love them more than I do. Help me release them into your hands today, trusting that you are faithful in the hours I will not see. Keep them safe, Lord, and keep us close to you all day long. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I hand my children to you again this morning. Go with them to school, to play, and to every place they will be today. Guard their bodies and their hearts, and bring them home to us tonight. Give me peace as I let them go, and remind me that you are already there. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 121:7-8

7 The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. 8 The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.

Pray this as a promise over your children’s comings and goings. Ask God to keep them from harm as they leave and as they return, trusting that his watch never ends.

Psalm 91:11

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

(WEB)

Use this verse to pray for angelic protection over your children in the places you cannot reach. Ask God to send his care ahead of them into every room and road they enter.

Psalm 127:1

Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

(WEB)

Read this as a reminder that your children’s safety ultimately rests in God’s hands, not your vigilance alone. Pray that you would work faithfully and rest in his protection.

Isaiah 41:10

Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

(WEB)

Pray this for children who may feel afraid, whether of a test, a bully, or the dark. Ask God to strengthen their hearts and to remind them that he is near.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

(WEB)

Pray that your children will be shaped by wisdom and good companions, so they learn to make safe and honest choices. Ask God to guide their paths as they grow.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this at the moment your children are putting on their shoes or gathering their bags, when your hands are busy and your mind is already racing toward the day. Some families pray it together at the kitchen table or at the front door with a hand on each child’s shoulder. A quiet moment in the car before the school drop-off also works well.

If you have a partner, a grandparent, or a friend who cares about your children, invite them to pray the same words over them. Having several people lift the same request can steady your own heart, and it reminds you that your children are loved by more than just you.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before these children and beside them, and may his protection surround them wherever they go today. May they walk in wisdom, be kept from harm, and return home to rest in peace. The Lord bless them and keep them, and make his face shine upon them.
