This morning prayer is for anyone waking up with a heart that still aches from loss, betrayal, disappointment or grief. Pray it first thing, before the phone lights up and the day’s demands begin, or sit with it over a cup of coffee while the house is still quiet. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words wherever they fit better.

Morning Prayers for Healing a Broken Heart

Lord, I come to You before the day gets loud. My heart is tender this morning, and I am not sure I have the strength to carry everything I am carrying. Some of the hurt is fresh and some has been with me for longer than I want to admit. Please meet me in the places that still feel raw, and remind me that You see every part of what I am holding.

As I step into today, I ask You to go before me into the conversations, the errands and the quiet moments when the old pain comes back without warning. When I feel the urge to pull away from people or to rehearse what went wrong, gently turn my attention toward You. Help me take small honest steps instead of forcing myself to be fine. Mend what only You can mend, and let me feel Your nearness even when I cannot explain it. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, my heart feels broken again today. Be near me right now, steady my breathing and quiet the fear in my chest. Help me take the next hour one step at a time, and remind me that I do not have to fix everything before lunch. Hold my heart together until I can rest in You. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly and let it name the exact places where your heart is hurting. Pray that God would draw close to you in those places, especially in the moments when you feel most alone before the day has even started.

Psalm 147:3

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

(WEB)

Ask God to do the mending work this verse describes, binding up the wounds you have carried for a long time. Let the prayer be honest about how slow healing can feel and trust Him with the pace of it.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Bring your weariness to Jesus as you would bring a heavy bag to a friend’s door. Pray that you would accept His invitation to rest, even if rest looks like a few quiet breaths between tasks today.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

(WEB)

Thank God for being the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, and ask Him to comfort you in a way you can recognize. Pray also that He would make you a source of comfort to someone else when the time is right.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

This verse was written from the ruins of a city, which is why it speaks so well to a broken heart. Pray that God’s faithfulness would be new to you this morning, even if yesterday’s pain still lingers at the edges.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a spot where you can sit without distraction, such as the edge of your bed, a kitchen chair or a window seat. Keep a glass of water or a warm drink nearby so your hands have something to hold while you speak. Read the main prayer slowly, pausing after each sentence to let it settle, and resist the urge to rush toward the end.

You might also invite a trusted friend, a spouse or a pastor to pray this prayer with you, or to pray it over you by name. If the morning feels too heavy to get through alone, text someone and ask them to pray for you at the same time. Heartbreak often shrinks when it is carried by more than one person.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord draw near to this heart and hold it gently through every hour of this day. May He mend what is broken, steady what is shaking and give rest to the one who is weary. May His peace guard the reader’s mind and carry them safely into the evening.
