This morning prayer asks God to make you patient, kind and attentive to the people you will meet today, from the person sharing your kitchen to the stranger at the checkout. Pray it when you first wake, while the house is still quiet, or on your way out the door. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and put your own names and worries into the spaces.
Morning Prayer for Loving Others
Lord, I am waking up to a new day, and I already know some of the people I will meet. There is the one who will be short with me before coffee, the coworker whose work always seems to land on my desk, and the friend who has been quiet lately and may be carrying something heavy. Show me where I have been holding grudges from yesterday and loosen my grip on them. Help me remember that the people around me are as tired and hopeful as I am.
Give me patience when my schedule gets crowded and someone needs more of my time than I planned to give. When I want to hurry past a person to finish my list, slow me down enough to really look at them. Let my words be honest but gentle, and let me listen longer than I want to. If I cannot fix someone’s problem today, let me at least offer them my presence and my prayers.
Father, I want to love people the way You love them, not only when it is easy but also when it costs me something. Fill me with Your kindness before I go out, so that it spills over into small acts through the day. Keep my heart soft toward those who frustrate me and open my eyes to those who feel invisible. Thank You for loving me first. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, before this day gets busy, fill me with Your love for the people I will see. Soften my words, slow my reactions and help me notice the person who needs kindness more than I need to be right. Let someone see You in how I treat them today. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Pray it at the start of your morning, before you check your phone or read the news, so that the first words in your mind are directed toward God and the people He has placed in your path. If you share a home, pray it quietly while you make breakfast or wait for the kettle, and consider reading the short version as you walk to the car or bus stop.
Keep your hands busy as you pray. Hold a cup of coffee, touch the doorframe as you leave, or write the names of two or three people you expect to see on a sticky note and place it where you will notice it. You might also invite a spouse, roommate or friend to pray it with you, and then check in that evening about how the day went.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord fill your heart with patience and kindness today. May He give you eyes to notice the people around you and the grace to serve them well. Go out in His peace, knowing you are loved and sent to love others.
