This morning prayer is written for parents and caregivers who want to bring their children before God at the start of the day. Pray it aloud as written at the breakfast table, in the car, or at a bedside, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words. It covers the day ahead, the first thoughts of the morning, and the people and tasks your children will meet before they come home.
Morning Prayers for Our Children
Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of these children. Before they wake fully, before the first argument over shoes or the search for a missing sock, I bring them to you. You know their names, their moods, and the things they are carrying that they may not yet have words for. Go before them into this day. Be in their classrooms, on the bus, on the playground, and in the moments when they feel left out or unsure of themselves.
Give them a sense of your nearness that does not depend on how the morning goes. When they are anxious about a test, a friend, or a new teacher, remind them that you have not forgotten them. When they are tempted to be unkind or to give up quickly, give them a gentle conscience and the courage to do what is right. Guard their hearts from fear and their minds from things that would pull them away from you. Help them to be honest, to be patient with others, and to be quick to forgive. Be the steady presence in their days that I cannot always be. I trust you with the hours I will not see. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Father, you are awake before we are, and you will be with our children all day. Go with them to school and work and play. Calm what is anxious in them, steady what is shaky, and make them kind to the people they meet. Keep them safe and help them remember that they belong to you. We give this day into your hands. Amen.

How to Pray This Prayer
Choose a steady moment in the morning, such as while the coffee brews, while packing lunches, or as children buckle into the car seat. Keep one hand on a child’s shoulder, a backpack, or a cup of juice so that your body stays present while your heart prays. If you have a partner, a grandparent, or a friend who also loves your children, invite them to pray the same words over the same day, even from a distance.
Pray it for each child by name, and let the prayer change to fit their personalities. A child who is shy may need courage, while a child who is quick to speak may need patience with others. Keep a small note on the fridge with the day’s known events, such as a spelling test, a doctor’s appointment, or a hard conversation, so you can pray for those things specifically before you leave the house.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord bless these children and keep them. May he make his face shine upon them and be gracious to them on this day and every day to come. May they walk with courage, love with generosity, and rest in the knowledge that they are known and loved by God.
