This morning prayer for our community is for the moment before the day begins, when you want to bring the people around you before God: neighbors, coworkers, teachers, shopkeepers and the families you will pass on the road. Pray it at the kitchen table with your coffee, in the car before you go in, or on a walk, reading it aloud as written or using it as a starting point for your own words.
Morning Prayer for Our Community
Lord, thank you for this new morning and for the gift of another day. Before the traffic starts and the phones begin to ring, I bring our community to you. Be near the families who are already awake and worried about rent, groceries, a sick parent or a child who is struggling at school. Give wisdom to the teachers, nurses, bus drivers and shop owners who will carry much of the weight of this day, and let them feel that their work matters to you.
Father, I also pray for the people I will meet today, including the ones I do not know well and the ones I would rather avoid. Soften my heart toward them and give me patience when I am tired. Protect those who are lonely, those who have lost work, and those who are grieving quietly. Where there is division in our town, teach us to listen before we speak. Let my words and my actions point others toward you, and make our community a place where your kindness can be seen. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, bless our neighborhood as this day begins. Watch over the families, the workers and the children who are heading out the door. Give us kindness toward one another, courage for hard conversations and mercy for those who are struggling. Help me to be a good neighbor today, in small ways and large ones. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”

Jeremiah wrote this to exiles who had every reason to hold themselves apart from their new city. Pray it for our community by asking God to help you seek the good of the town where you live, even when it feels unfamiliar or difficult.
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
(WEB)
This verse names what the Lord asks of his people: justice, mercy and humility. As you pray it this morning, ask for each of these in the way you treat the people you meet at work, at school and in the store.
Philippians 2:4
Each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.
(WEB)
Paul urges believers to look beyond their own interests. Pray this for our community by asking God to show you one person today whose needs you can notice and quietly help meet.

If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

Paul recognizes that peace is not always fully in our control. Pray this verse for the relationships in our community that feel strained, asking God to make you a peacemaker wherever you can be.
Proverbs 11:25
The liberal soul shall be made fat. He who waters shall be watered also himself.
(WEB)
This proverb speaks of generosity that refreshes others and is itself refreshed. Pray it for our community by asking God to open your hands and your time to someone who could use encouragement or practical help this week.
How to Pray This Prayer
Many people find it helps to pray this prayer at the same time each morning, perhaps just after you wake and before you check your messages. Sit somewhere quiet with a cup of coffee or tea in your hands, and let the warmth remind you to slow down. If you have a list of names for people you know, keep it near you and pray for each one as you come to them.
You might also invite someone else to pray it with you, a spouse, a roommate or a friend who lives nearby. Praying together over the same town can make your neighborhood feel less like a collection of strangers and more like a family God has placed you in. Let this prayer be a steady start to your day, and return to it whenever you need to remember the people around you.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord go before you and beside you as you step into this day. May he give your neighbors peace, your community courage and your hands the strength to serve. May God’s kindness meet you at every doorway and his faithfulness steady you through every hour.
