This morning prayer is for anyone whose day is spent caring for, teaching, feeding, driving, lifting or listening to other people. It is meant to be prayed before you start the day, while the house is quiet or the car is still parked and the first demands have not yet arrived. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own words into the same needs.
Morning Prayer for Those Serving Others
Lord, I wake up knowing that today I will be needed by other people. There will be the person who asks for one more thing, the question I have to answer patiently, the job that stretches longer than I planned, and the moment when I would rather be somewhere else. Give me your strength before I reach for my own. Keep my hands steady, my tone gentle and my attention where it belongs, on the person in front of me and not on the clock.
I also bring you the people I will serve, especially the ones who are hard to love today. Soften what is hardened in me and let me see them as you see them. Where I am tired, give me rest in small pockets I can recognize. Where I am tempted to resent what I give, remind me that every kindness I offer is first received from you. Let my service be honest and not performed, and let it come from a heart that is not running on empty.
Be near to me when I am unsure whether I am doing enough. Keep me from measuring my worth by how much others thank me. Fill the gaps I cannot fill and forgive the mistakes I will make before lunch. Go before me into this day, stay beside me through it, and bring me home tonight knowing I was not alone. Amen.
A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment
Lord, I need you now. Steady my hands and my patience for the next hour. Show me the one person who needs me most, and help me give them my full attention. Keep me honest when I am tired and gentle when I am pressed. Let my small acts of care point someone toward your love today. Amen.
Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up.
(WEB)
Pray this verse as a promise against weariness. Ask God to keep you from giving up on the good you are doing, even when no one notices and the results come slowly.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
(WEB)
Bring your exhaustion to Jesus before you bring it to anyone else. Name the specific tiredness you feel this morning and ask for rest that reaches past sleep into your spirit.
Colossians 3:23
And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men…
(WEB)
Pray this when your tasks feel small or repetitive. Ask the Lord to make ordinary work an offering to him, whether you are cooking, cleaning, teaching or answering the phone.
Psalm 121:1-2
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
(WEB)
Use this psalm to turn your eyes away from the pile of needs and toward the one who made heaven and earth. Ask for help that does not depend on your own reserves.
Mark 10:45
For the Son of Man also came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
(WEB)
Pray this verse to remember the pattern you are following. Ask Jesus to shape your service after his own, which gave itself freely to others without losing its dignity.
How to Pray This Prayer
Pray it before you check your phone or step out of bed, while the first cup of coffee is still warm. If you are at home, you might say it sitting at the kitchen table with your hands around the mug. If you work outside the home, pray it in the car, on the bus or standing in the parking lot before you walk in. Keep a short copy on a note card in your bag so you can read it again at a break.
This prayer also works well for a spouse, a friend, a pastor or a coworker to pray over you, or for a small group to read together before a shift begins. Something as simple as placing a hand on the table or the steering wheel while you pray can anchor your attention. Let the words be a beginning, and return to them whenever the day pulls you away from God.
A Blessing to Close
May the Lord give strength to the one who gives so much today. May he keep their hands steady, their heart gentle and their rest close at hand. May they know that their faithful service is seen and cherished by the one they serve most. Go in peace, and may God meet you in every task.
