This short prayer is for the end of a hard week, when you are tired, worried, or simply worn thin and do not know how to put it into words. It can be prayed at the close of the day, on a weekend morning, or whenever the weight feels heavier than you can carry alone. Read it aloud as written, or use it as a starting point and speak your own sentences around it.

Short Prayer After a Difficult Week

Lord, this week has been long, and I come to you tired. There were conversations that went badly, deadlines that piled up, and worries that kept me awake when I needed rest. Some of it I could have handled better, and some of it was simply beyond my control. I am not asking you to explain every hard thing that happened. I am asking you to meet me here, in the middle of it.

Be near to me tonight. Quiet the replaying of the hard moments in my mind, and help me set down what I was never meant to carry alone. Show me where I have been holding on too tightly, to my plans, my reputation, or my need to get everything right. Give me honest rest, not just a break from work, but a settling of my heart in your presence.

Thank you that you do not grow weary as I do, and that you are not surprised by anything that happened this week. Strengthen me for tomorrow, one hour at a time, and let me trust that you are working even in what I could not see. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Father, I am worn out from this week and I do not have much left to say. Take the worry I am still holding, and take the frustration I have been swallowing. Steady my breathing and steady my thoughts. Remind me that I am not alone in what happened, and that you are with me right now. Give me enough peace to close my eyes and rest. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:1

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

(WEB)

When a week has left you feeling shaken, pray this verse as a simple statement of where you run for help. Name the specific hard moments and say that God is your refuge in them. Let the word “present” remind you that help is near, even when it does not feel like it.

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.

(WEB)

Read this verse slowly and notice the invitation in it. Bring your exhaustion to Jesus by name, and tell him exactly what has made you weary this week. Ask him to show you what it looks like to come to him instead of trying to push through on your own.

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

(WEB)

This verse is an invitation to hand over the things that have been sitting on your shoulders. Make a short list of the burdens from the past few days and pray them one at a time, releasing each into God’s care. Ask him to sustain you as you let them go.

Isaiah 40:29

He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might.

(WEB)

When your energy is gone, this verse speaks directly to your weakness. Pray it as a request for strength you cannot generate yourself. Ask God to give you enough for the next task, and trust that he gives power to those who have nothing left.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

This passage was written by someone in real distress, yet it still names God’s faithfulness as new each morning. Pray it on the morning after a hard week, thanking God that his mercies have not run out. Let it shape how you face the day ahead.

How to Pray This Prayer

Choose a time when the week’s noise has quieted, such as after supper, before bed, or early on a Saturday with a cup of tea. Sit somewhere you can be still, and if it helps, hold something in your hands, like a mug, a pen, or your Bible. Read the main prayer slowly, pausing after each paragraph to let the words settle before you move on.

If you are praying with someone who is also tired, a spouse, a friend, or a small group, take turns reading the prayer aloud. You might each add one sentence about what was hardest for you this week. Close by praying the shorter version together, which makes it easy to carry into the rest of the evening.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord who sees every hard hour of this week meet you with rest that goes deeper than sleep. May he steady your heart, lighten what you were never meant to carry, and open a path into a gentler day. May you know, plainly and without hurry, that you are held.
