This simple prayer for the start of the week is for the moment when Monday arrives with its inbox, its schedule, and its quiet worries, and you want to bring all of it to God before the day takes over. Pray it early, before you check your phone or step out the door, or at any point when you feel the week pressing in. You can read it aloud exactly as written, or use it as a starting point and speak in your own words.

Simple Prayer for the Start of the Week

Lord, I come to you at the beginning of this week, and I want to start here, before anything else asks for my attention. You know the list already: the meetings, the deadlines, the bills, the conversations I am dreading and the ones I am looking forward to. You know the people I love and the ones who are struggling in ways I cannot fix. Thank you that you already know what this week holds, and that nothing in it catches you by surprise.

Give me steady hands for the work in front of me. When I feel behind before I have even begun, remind me that you do not measure my worth by how much I finish. Help me take the next right step instead of trying to carry the whole week at once. Where I am tempted to worry about tomorrow, quiet me with the truth that today has enough trouble of its own and that you are already present in tomorrow too.

Father, go before me into each day. Guard my words when I am tired, my patience when I am stretched, and my heart when I am tempted to measure myself against others. Keep my family, my friends, and my coworkers in your care this week, including the ones I have not mentioned by name. Thank you that I do not face this week alone. Amen.

A Shorter Version to Pray in a Moment

Lord, this is a new week, and I am already feeling its weight. Go before me into every hour of it. Give me what I need for the next task, and help me trust you with the rest. Keep my heart steady, my words kind, and my focus on you. Let me see your faithfulness in small things today. Amen.

Scriptures to Pray Alongside

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

(WEB)

When the week feels loud and crowded, pray this verse slowly and let it slow your breathing. Ask God to still the noise in your mind so you can recognize him in the middle of your tasks.

Lamentations 3:22-23

22 It is because of the LORD’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. 23 They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

(WEB)

Use this passage to thank God for mercies that are new each morning. Name one specific mercy from last week and ask for fresh eyes to notice what he is giving you now.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

(WEB)

This verse speaks directly to the habit of rehearsing next week’s problems today. Pray it as a request to set down tomorrow’s worries and receive only what this day requires.

Philippians 4:6-7

6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

(WEB)

Bring each item on your mental list to God in prayer, one by one, with thanksgiving alongside the requests. Ask for the peace this passage promises to guard your heart and mind through the week.

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait for the LORD will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint.

(WEB)

Pray this for the moments when you feel depleted before the week has really started. Ask God to renew your strength in the places where you are running on empty.

How to Pray This Prayer

Try praying this prayer early in the day, while the house is still quiet or during the first few minutes at your desk before email begins. Sit somewhere you can be still, and keep a pen nearby so you can jot down anything God brings to mind. Some people find it helpful to hold a cup of coffee or tea, letting the warmth remind them to pause before rushing ahead.

If you pray this with a spouse, a friend, or a small group, take turns reading the lines aloud and pause after each one for a few seconds of silence. You might also ask someone to pray it over you on Monday morning, or offer to pray it for a friend who is starting a hard week. Praying together keeps the week from feeling like something you carry alone.

A Blessing to Close

May the Lord go before you this week and walk beside you in every task. May he steady your hands, calm your thoughts, and give you rest in the moments you need it most. May you know, when the week grows long, that you are held by a faithful God who has already seen every day ahead.
